Fines and Fees Justice Center
The Fines & Fees Justice Center (“FFJC”) is a national center for advocacy, policy, information, and collaboration on effective solutions to the unjust and harmful imposition and enforcement of fines and fees in the criminal legal system. FFJC’s mission is to end abusive collection practices, eliminate fees in the legal justice system, and make fines proportional to the offense and the individual. FFJC works with impacted communities, advocates, and justice system stakeholders to create an equitably-funded justice system that treats individuals fairly and ensures public safety.
Position Summary
The Communications Internship will provide the candidate with a wide-ranging view of the work FFJC is doing at the state and national levels. The intern will be able to get first-hand experience with targeted communications strategy, including media outreach, content creation, and digital engagement. The position will involve reviewing research and policy reports, legislation, and other proposals. The intern will be included in key communications discussions and encouraged to contribute input and ideas.
This position reports to the Director of Communications, and works closely with the Deputy Director of Communications to achieve programmatic objectives.
Exact duties will vary. Day-to-day responsibilities will include assisting with:
- Collecting and reporting digital analytics
- Tracking and compiling news coverage analytics and helping monitor breaking news coverage
- Supporting media relationships and outreach
- Monitoring social media activity and trends
- Content creation and administration, such as social media, blog posts, and video
- Drafting materials for media and digital distribution
Minimum Qualifications
- Strong organization and tracking skills with attention to detail and deadlines
- Clear, concise, and engaging written communications skills
- A sense of humor, and ability to work collaboratively
- Able to commit to up to 20 hours/week, minimum of 12 hours/week
Nice to Have
- Experience with social media content and image development and posting
- Familiarity with/demonstrated interest in criminal legal reform or related social justice issues
Compensation:This position pays $20 per hour.
