Job Title: Wildlife Rehabilitation Specialist
Department: vonArx Wildlife Hospital
Reports To: Director of Wildlife
Seasonal Pay: $18.00 per hour - Up to 40 hours per week
PURPOSE OF JOB: Assists the Wildlife Hospital in day-to-day efforts of wildlife rehabilitation. Assists staff with initial diagnosis of wildlife patients, setting up and following treatment plans with the purpose of successfully releasing patients back into the wild.
- Assists in dealing with and effectively handling telephone inquiries, people who rescue wildlife.
- Participate in wildlife releases.
- Maintain accurate records of each animal's condition and treatment.
- Work collaboratively with other staff, internship trainees, and volunteers to ensure the smooth operation of the wildlife hospital.
- Assists in basic administrative functions of the wildlife hospital.
- Monitor the progress of each animal in care and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
- Assist with general maintenance and upkeep of the rehabilitation facility, including cleaning enclosures and equipment.
- Provide care and rehabilitation for injured or orphaned wildlife, including feeding, cleaning, and administering medication as needed.
- Assists with special projects and new programs, as directed by supervisor.
- Occasionally develops and conducts Wildlife Rehabilitation Hospital educational programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong commitment to the conservation of biodiversity, environmental quality, and natural resources.
- Minimum 1 year of related experience or internship.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Computer skills, including working knowledge of word processing, database, and spreadsheet programs.
- Knowledge and skills in wildlife rehabilitation practices including, but not limited to, basic animal care and nutrition.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with individuals of diverse interest and backgrounds.
- Knowledge of wildlife ecology, biology and ecology.
- Bachelor's degree in wildlife ecology, biology, or related field
- Experience developing and conducting educational programs and tours.

- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Employee must be have excellent communication skills, and must be able to manage multiple priorities on a constant basis.
- Experienced with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work outside normal schedule as required for hospital hours, including evenings, weekends or holidays.
- Experienced with computer databases.
- Current Florida Driver’s License with good driving record.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The Seasonal Wildlife Rehabilitator Specialist will work primarily in the wildlife hospital, or outdoor enclosures, often in close proximity to animals. The position may require working in inclement weather conditions and performing physically demanding tasks. The ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, is necessary to accommodate the needs of the animals in care.
