WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER


The Wildlife Biologist provides technical and scientific support for conservation initiatives in The Mississippi Chapter’s Camp Shelby Field Office. The Wildlife Biologist collects and manages data for endangered, threatened and special herptofauna species. They classify targets and assess their data to prioritize areas for conservation and work with multiple partners to drive Longleaf Pine Ecosystem goals. The Wildlife Biologist conducts scientific surveys and research, records data, writes reports and develops proposals in order to administer and coordinate conservation programs within The Nature Conservancy’s Camp Shelby Field Office. The Wildlife Biologist also assists with prescribed fires. They may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, in hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances

Are you looking for a career working with multiple partners in managing federally listed and at-risk herptofauna in Mississippi’s Longleaf Pine Ecosystem? The Camp Shelby Field Office works with multiple partners to work towards recovery objectives for federally listed and at-risk herptofauna along with Longleaf Pine Ecosystem management. This includes caring for federally protected species as part of Gopher Tortoise head-starting objectives, egg collection and incubation, installing drift fences, building traps, and assisting with/designing other monitoring methods for the Black Pinesnake and other at-risk herptofauna. In addition, the Wildlife Biologist is responsible for managing direct report, analyzing data, and writing reports. We’re looking for someone who is a passionate, motivated, problem-solver. WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Master's Degree in science related field and 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience collecting, manipulating, analyzing and interpreting scientific data.
  • Experience preparing reports of findings.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with the safe operation of ATVs and UTVs including hauling this equipment on trailers.
  • Strong background in herpetology
  • People management experience
  • Ability to meet NWCG certification requirements to participate in prescribed fires
