The Safety Representative is responsible for assisting the Safety Coordinator and supervisory personnel in executing the Walker Engineering Safety Program at the jobsite level. SR’s are expected to spend the majority of their working time in the field observing and helping production employee’s work safely.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the preparation of Job Hazard Analyses
- Communicate effectively with the Safety Coordinator and other safety personnel
- Administer the Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) program
- Participate, when needed, in project safety team and safety committee activities
- Provide input with regard to further safety needs
- Notify supervision when additional safety items become necessary
- Have no other jobsite requirements while designated in the SR position
- Support the Safety Coordinator in all aspects of the safety program
- Conduct and document material and equipment inspections
- Conduct or arrange safety meetings
- Audit, correct, and teach proper safety protocols
- Assist with incident investigations
- Assist, arrange, or provide formal training, including documentation and preparation
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- This job operates in a client project environment with exposure to employee, subcontractors and trades.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Physical stamina to walk and access elevations in a construction environment
- Prioritization skills
- Personal commitment to observing safety mentality
- Communication skills (written and verbal) necessary to communicate effectively
- Ability to teach, train, mentor
- Strong commitment to safety
- Valid driver’s license satisfactory for company minimum requirements
- Strong teamwork and integrity orientation
- Ability to work overtime as needed
- Willingness to work flexible schedules
- Basic understanding of construction safety (OSHA 10)
- Skill and understanding of the electrical industry
Certifications: OSHA 10, OSHA 30, OSHA 500, CSHO, STS, CHST
Education: High School or GED equivalent
Experience: 5 years construction and/or safety background
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to manipulate materials and/or equipment up to 50 lbs. The frequency of manipulation if frequently.
- Ability to move up or mount by using the hands or feet to include:
- Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment
- This job operates in a client project environment with exposure to employee, subcontractors and trades.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to comprehend forms in space and understand relationships of plane and solid objects. May be used in such tasks as blue print reading and in solving geometry problems. Frequently described as the ability to “visualize” objects of two and three dimensions, or to think visually of geometric forms.
Ladders - Step stool, 8' to 10' ladder, extension ladder
Stairways - 3 or more flights
- To perceive or comprehend by the sense of sight.
- To bend forward or down from the middle of the waist or the middle of the back, to bend, downwards, to lower oneself and/or to move freely on hands and knees between 20-50 times daily
- To stretch out, extend, or put forth a bodily part. To touch or grasp something, by extending or stretching. To touch, lift, hold or operate with the hands up to 50 times daily.
Characteristics are: Focus, Color perception or depth perception.
