The Beverage Product Safety & Quality team is seeking a strategic, forward-thinking, food safety & quality professional to play a pivotal role in beverage innovation programs and initiatives for our retail stores. In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and industry experts to ensure all aspects of the product, processing, and packaging meet and elevate Starbucks safety and quality requirements and drive our team’s mission to ensure partner and customer trust in Starbucks food safety & quality, every day. You will continuously evaluate and identify efficiency and performance gaps to improve our beverage product safety and quality management system.
As a product safety and quality lead advisor, Beverage Innovation, you will…
- Professional Expertise: Leverage the breadth of your technical expertise in food science and food safety to identify and translate complex details into insights, and insights actions in support of company business strategy. Successfully transfer knowledge to teammates and ensure successful transition of initiatives into market ready products.
- Business Acumen & Problem Solving: Apply analytical thought to proactively establish program metrics identify gaps for improvement of our beverage safety and quality program. Address complex problems by identifying creative solutions, leverage thorough understanding of business dynamics to recommend appropriate data-based solutions. Interface with external experts and industry organizations to build knowledge and expertise in industry best practice and cutting-edge process technology.
- Prioritization & Planning: Work collaboratively and independently to develop comprehensive plans for complex projects and programs. Establish project needs for time and resources, challenges, and success criteria successful delivery of intended results.
- Collaboration & Communication – Build relationships and influence cross-functionally and effectively balance multiple viewpoints. Effectively communicate frequently and clearly with recommendations and decisions to partners at different organizational levels.
Be a strategic thinker and force multiplier: Strategically anticipate, define, prove, and validate new product commercialization and outline a path for integration of new suppliers and products to supply base management programs. Elevate the application of scientific principles and data-driven insights to improve our commercialization processes, first time right metrics, and supplier monitoring systems.
We’d love to hear from people with:
- At least 8 years’ experience in applying in-depth technical knowledge and expertise in food technology, food science, manufacturing, equipment, quality assurance, microbiology, food safety, quality and food safety auditing, environmental public health, or Research & Development.
- Ability to navigate ambiguous environment while balancing multiple, complex projects and programs to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective and influential relationship building skills at different levels within the organization and enterprise as well as with suppliers and 3rd party consultants.
- Knowledge of GMPs, HACCP Principles, Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) schemes. Hold current food safety certifications such as safe food handling, sanitation, PCQI, HACCP, etc.
- General Science, Food Science, Food Safety, Microbiology, Environmental Public Health Degree (4 year), and strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in preparing clear and concise high-quality verbal, written and visual presentations that effectively utilize storytelling techniques.
- Knowledge, training, or certification in continuous improvement methodologies such as project management, program management, Lean Six Sigma, Agile, 5S – preferred.
