DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health has held its Magnet status since 2011.The Oncology Float Pool RN will work in multiple cancer clinic and disease modalities and sites to provide expert continuity of care for RNs on leaves. This career position requires an experienced, dynamic RN with exceptional clinical and communication skills with patient and family members, faculty, APPs and all team members. The RN works closely with team members in and outside the clinic to provide care coordination along the continuum of care, including referral to appropriate support services, collaborative symptom management and empowerment of patients and families to make informed decisions. The RN has exemplary written and verbal communication skills with multiple stakeholders, serving as a patient advocate to build trust and confidence with the patient, family and team.

Expected locations: Encinitas, Vista, La Jolla Moores Cancer Center & KOP, Hillcrest, and Rancho Bernardo.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• RN License issued by the State of California.
• Must have positive communication and telephone skills and positive stress management and coping skills.
• Care Coordination experience.
• BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
• Must have the ability to recognize and manage oncologic emergencies.
• Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
• Must have strong knowledge of cancer care, diagnosis, and treatment.
• Must have current knowledge of chemotherapy protocols.
• Minimum two (2) years of Hematology, Oncology, and/or BMT experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• OCN/BMTCN certification.
• BSN
• Outpatient experience.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

• Must be able to work with terminally ill patients.
• Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, and various locations based on business needs.
• Selected candidate may be hired at the CNIII or CNIV level pending review and approval by the Nurse Executive Council.
• Float locations include: Encinitas, Vista, La Jolla Moores Cancer Center & KOP, Hillcrest, and Rancho Bernardo.
• Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Job offer is contingent on successful engagement in the UC COVID-19 Vaccination program (fully vaccinated with documented proof or approved exception/deferral).

If applicable, life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment; online-only certification is not acceptable.
