DESCRIPTION

This is an exciting opportunity to join the expanding Patient Access services. This nurse position responsibility includes:
- Refers all cases where necessity of extended stays is questioned to the attending physician and Treatment Team
- Reviews Interqual criteria for medical necessity to determine appropriateness for admission/continued stay
- Attends treatment team rounds and works closely with discharge planners and physicians to coordinate discharge and help facilitate step down authorizations for next level of care
- Completes paper TARs for billing purposes
- Coordination with Business Office and Admissions regarding single care agreement requirements and in and out of network benefit coverage and limitations
- Maintains a system for monitoring all inpatient and outpatient cases to assure review of continued-stays on a timely basis
- Review of medical necessity and appropriateness of admission, continued stay, psychiatric interventions such as ECT and Ketamine and discharge using approved criteria standards
- Reviews continued-stays of all clients prior to expiration of the initially assigned length of stay
- Collects and records all information and data needed for admission, concurrent and discharge reviews
Incumbent report to the Patient Access Manager. Required travel between UCSD sites, including Hillcrest and Greenwich.
While not required, a cover letter is highly recommended when applying to this position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- BART or BLS certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
- Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.
- RN License issued by the State of California.
- Minimum two (2) years RN experience with at least one (1) year working with psychiatric population.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with interventional psychiatric treatments (i.e., ketamine and electroconvulsive therapy).
- Bilingual in both Spanish and English.
- Experience with EPIC, EMR.
- Previous UCSD Experience.
- BSN.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $116,886 - $163,825 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $55.98 - $78.46
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
Job offer is contingent on successful engagement in the UC COVID-19 Vaccination program (fully vaccinated with documented proof or approved exception/deferral).
If applicable, life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment; online-only certification is not acceptable.
