We build useful, usable, and innovative experiences for Zillow customers. These experiences live across web, mobile, and internal software platforms.

About the role

As a principal product designer, you’re responsible for uncovering customer insights, developing design strategy and vision, and leading product teams to deliver outstanding customer experiences. As a design leader, you develop positive relationships, provide mentorship to other designers, and work with others to elevate design quality. You will play a critical role in how Zillow realizes that vision, helping us shape and deliver high quality and innovative experiences that will build momentum for the team, customers, and business. Our mission is to make Zillow the most-loved place to discover, buy, sell, or rent a home.

Responsibilities:

• Advocate for customer needs and ensure that designs address customer goals
• Partner with other designers to ensure design consistency and excellence
• Lead multiple projects independently and deliver high-quality work on time
• Present design work and regularly engage with partners for feedback
• Work with product managers, researchers, content designers, and engineers
• Lead design activities like problem definition, storytelling, journey mapping, co-design sessions, prototyping, design critique, and user testing
• Propose, test, and evaluate ideas that improve Zillow customer experiences
• Contribute, learn, grow, and have fun!
• Share expertise and mentorship to help others develop skills
• Build detailed information architecture, interaction models, and UI patterns
• Design digital experiences for web, iOS, Android, and operator platforms

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City and Washington the standard base pay range for this role is $147,800.00 - $236,200.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City and Washington and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

• Experience shipping products that get meaningful results for customers and businesses
• Experience crafting products and services using human-centered design principles
• Examples of critical thinking, creativity, and risk-taking in design projects
• Experience building relationships and working optimally with diverse, cross-functional teams
• Experience identifying customer insights through user research and discovery activities
• Experience developing tools and frameworks to help teams work better together
• Experience making effective decisions and managing design project work
• Expertise with Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar design and prototyping tools
• Expertise in interaction design, visual design, and other user experience fields
• 7-10 years as a product designer, user experience designer, design lead, or similar role
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Examples of high quality interaction and visual design work in a design portfolio
• Experience developing design strategies that address customer and business problems
• Experience providing direction that helps designers grow their skills and deliver their best work
