Job Title
IGTD Industrial DesignerIGTD Industrial Designer - Plymouth, Minnesota
You will understand the customer's point of view while becoming a key leader in the creation and definition of medical device product concepts for products used to diagnose and treat a variety of vascular diseases.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a very dynamic and fast-growing business at Philips.
Your role:
- You will serve as the voice of industrial design, ensuring that workflow and human factors elements are included in the product design of medical devices for Philips Image Guided Therapy Devices from the beginning. By understanding and representing the customer and how they interface with our products, as well as the needs driven from other aspects of the medical procedures these products are used in, you will help the teams develop solutions that are more capable and easier to adopt and use.
- You will be joining a dedicated IGTD Design team in Plymouth, MN, but working with Philips teammates primarily in the United States and Europe including the Philips Central Design team in the Netherlands. You will have the chance to directly interact with physicians and other healthcare professionals as you help your team understand user needs and gain feedback on concepts at medical conferences and on customer site visits. You will be part of the first team that is embedding these competencies directly within the IGTD business, thereby shaping the expectations and Ways of Working for this team in the future.
- You will work with a cross-functional product development team, working especially closely with R&D and Marketing. You bring key competencies to the cross-functional team including workflow assessments, design sprint facilitation, concept development, and creation of a consistent brand experience for our customers via the use of the Philips Design language.
You're the right fit if:
- You must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive, and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this position.
- Your skills include advanced competency in digital tools for concept communication (3D modeling software, Adobe Illustrator, etc), understanding of design sprint methodology (ability to facilitate is highly desired), ability to prototype concepts for user interactions (3D printing and other model making skills), and demonstrated ability in understanding and documenting workflow (user stories, ethnographic research, workflow analyses). Competency with standard digital office tools is a must-have.
- You have a degree or certification in industrial design (highly desired) or degrees or certifications in adjacent disciplines like art or graphic design (considered with relevant experience). Passion for a polished user experience and understanding the customer’s “Job to Be Done” is a must-have.
- You’ve acquired 4+ years of experience in industrial design. Prior medical product design is highly desired; experience in understanding and translating user needs into concepts is a must-have.
- You’re an accomplished communicator both visually and verbally, interested in different perspectives and understanding the whole challenge, able to understand and articulate the ecosystem within which the customer’s challenge arises, successful at collaborating with cross-functional teammates, able to productively challenge the status quo, enthusiastic about lean and experiment-based learning approaches, and passionate about delivering results.
