About the Position:


The People Operations Business Partner is responsible for performing advanced, specialized, and administrative duties in designated business units. The position formulates partnerships across the organization to deliver value-added services to management and employees that reflect the business objectives of the organization.


What You Will Do:


  • Acts as an internal consultant by analyzing and recommending solutions to people operations issues relating to the assigned program or section area.
  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough, and objective investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to the day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with the legal department as needed/required.
  • Provides People Operations policy guidance and interpretation. Ensures departments are in compliance with established policies and procedures and with any relevant federal, state, or local legislation.
  • Support line managers by driving a performance culture through coaching, facilitating talent assessments, and succession planning meetings.
  • Consults with the People Operations VP regarding complex employee relations issues.
  • Participate in meetings and groups as required.
  • Provides support and guidance to People Operations team members, faculty, and management when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Advises and trains managers and supervisors in best employee relations practices and strategies for managing supervisor problems and employee grievances.
  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.
  • Assist People Operations VP with policy creation and updating.
  • Identifies training needs for business units and individual executive coaching needs. Presents training sessions related to the assigned group.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Conducts regular meetings with respective business units.


What You Will Bring


  • Preferred: PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Five (5) years of experience resolving complex employee relations issues.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate.
  • Three (3) years of experience resolving complex employee relations issues.
  • High School Diploma or GED, five (5) years of experience in a Human Resources role. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in human resources management or equivalent.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization's HRIS and talent management systems.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in a Human Resources role.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
