- Acts as an internal consultant by analyzing and recommending solutions to people operations issues relating to the assigned program or section area.
- Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough, and objective investigations.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to the day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with the legal department as needed/required.
- Provides People Operations policy guidance and interpretation. Ensures departments are in compliance with established policies and procedures and with any relevant federal, state, or local legislation.
- Support line managers by driving a performance culture through coaching, facilitating talent assessments, and succession planning meetings.
- Consults with the People Operations VP regarding complex employee relations issues.
- Participate in meetings and groups as required.
- Provides support and guidance to People Operations team members, faculty, and management when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Advises and trains managers and supervisors in best employee relations practices and strategies for managing supervisor problems and employee grievances.
- This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.
- Assist People Operations VP with policy creation and updating.
- Identifies training needs for business units and individual executive coaching needs. Presents training sessions related to the assigned group.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
- Conducts regular meetings with respective business units.
- Preferred: PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Five (5) years of experience resolving complex employee relations issues.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate.
- Three (3) years of experience resolving complex employee relations issues.
- High School Diploma or GED, five (5) years of experience in a Human Resources role. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in human resources management or equivalent.
- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization's HRIS and talent management systems.
- Seven (7) years of experience in a Human Resources role.
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
