Part-Time Youth Football (Offensive/Defensive) Coordinator

Purpose of Job

The purpose of this classification is to coach, lead and teach young athletes the game of football and serve as the assistant head coach.

Essential Functions

Youth Football (Offensive or Defensive) Coordinator is responsible for the following essential functions:

• Sign and adhere to the Knox County Youth Coaches Code of Conduct.
• Attend additional coaches training as required.
• Ensure an exceptional learning experience.
• Assist the Head Coach with day-to-day football task as needed.
• Assist with practice drills and activities.
• Always maintain positive inclusive environment.
• Follow the Knox County Parks and Recreation Youth Sports Core Values.
• Place the emotional and physical well-being of the players ahead of a personal desire to win.
• Provide a sports environment that is free of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, and refrain from their use at all youth sports events.
• Perform all duties in accordance with the Knox County Coaches Creed.
• Be an expert in the rules of youth football and teach these rules to the players.
• Treat each player as an individual, remembering the large range of emotional and physical development for the same age group.
• Use coaching techniques appropriate (based on age) for all of the skills that are taught.

Additional Job Functions

• Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local, regional or central office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Mayor’s Office
• Ensure regular, punctual attendance during scheduled work hours
• Perform other duties as required

Minimum Training & Qualifications

• Complete USA Football Coaches Training.
• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Complete NAYS coaches training.
• Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered for employment into the position.

• Safety awareness and ensure the well-being of all players
• Strong level of patience and adaptability when dealing with players of different skill level and when talking with parents
• Basic understanding of computers, printers and other office equipment
• Demonstrate good sportsmanship, leadership, foster teamwork and a positive environment
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of the game of football

Physical Requirements

• This position requires the ability to engage in occasional light physical activity.

Occupational Hazards

• Ability to work indoors and outdoors, cold and hot weather conditions including precipitation.
