What’s the role?
As a Marketplace Policy Manager you will report to the Global Director of Marketplace Policy and develop policies that 1) set clear expectations regarding appropriate behavior for Etsy users, and 2) enable consistent enforcement by Trust & Safety teams.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Director I, Global Marketplace Policy and the base salary range will be 100,000 - 118,000 USD per year. For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States who are either remote, flex, or office-based. What’s this team like at Etsy?
- The Marketplace Policy team supports the Etsy Inc. community (including Etsy subsidiaries Reverb, Depop, and Elo7) by developing nuanced, fair, and enforceable rules regarding user content and behavior. We conduct academic and industry research, solicit the business intelligence of our cross functional partners, and conduct complex risk tradeoff analysis to ensure that our policies effectively balance safety and fairness, growth and risk. Finally, we work closely with the teams that enforce and communicate our policies to ensure consistent, accurate implementation.
What does the day-to-day look like?
- Scoping, researching, drafting, and coordinating the launch of new policies and policy updates, aligned with company goals and stakeholder priorities.
- Managing the continuous improvement and iteration of Etsy Inc’s policies and policy enforcement ecosystem, including monitoring current and emerging content policy risks and trends as well as internal escalation trends
- Responding to enforcement team consults and managing high-profile policy escalations related to media attention or inquiries.
- Building consensus regarding the policy stance that is best for Etsy Inc.
- Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.
- Ensuring that policies are enforced and communicated clearly, consistently, and accurately by collaborating with and advising cross functional teams such as Trust & Safety, Product, Marketing, Comms, Brand Content, and UX Design
Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
- Ability to establish credibility and rapport with technical and non-technical team members and to drive alignment across multiple functions
- Strong research, writing, and verbal communication skills
- Prior Trust & Safety Ops experience is a plus
- Ability to autonomously manage and prioritize multiple complex policy projects across all stages of the development and implementation lifecycle.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- 3+ years of experience developing and supporting implementation of content policies (aka Trust & Safety Policy, Community Policy, User Policy…).
