About the Position:


The Manager of People & Culture will join the Talent team and play an integral role in Civic Builders’ growth and focus on attracting and retaining top talent to foster a positive, equitable, inclusive, high-performing culture. The Talent team currently includes the Vice President of Talent and support from HR consultants and systems. The Manager of People & Culture position is intended to support the VP in managing the HR function and collaborating with leaders and team members to research, support, design, and implement equitable hiring practices, organizational policies, talent development best practices, benefits administration, and compliance efforts.


We are seeking a creative, experienced individual who will be self-motivated and driven by creating high-quality solutions, people processes, and supports that advance our organizational core values and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and racial justice (DEIRJ). This individual will have experience in supporting an array of talent initiatives including inclusive recruitment and hiring, professional and organizational development, HRIS systems, and performance management processes.


Responsibilities:


Talent Acquisition


  • Source and track the diversity of candidate pools at every stage of the hiring process, analyze data, and identify strategies to support inclusive recruitment practices.
  • Implement comprehensive onboarding support for new hires, including fellows and interns. Design, plan and execute employer branding
  • Develop and lead the implementation of a comprehensive strategy to attract and hire high-quality talent.
  • Develop and refine role-based competencies, growth, and career pathways leveraging tools such as Lattice.
  • Leverage systems, such as JazzHR, external recruiters, and other tools to expand Civic’s outreach to candidates across diverse audiences.
  • Cultivate a bench of potential candidates for future hiring needs through online and in-person networking.
  • Refine recruitment and interviewing practices to support managers and teams to fill open positions and ensure Civic’s practices are equitable, welcoming, and accessible for all.
  • Lead the end-to-end recruitment processes to ensure a positive and effective candidate and hiring team experience.


HR Administration


  • Utilize people management software tools, such as Lattice, to support performance management, growth and engagement processes (i.e., goal-setting, feedback, pulse surveys, peer reviews, individual growth plans, career tracks, etc.)
  • In partnership with the Operations team, manage benefits administration, compensation, payroll, time and attendance, and other HR processes to efficiently manage the employee lifecycle using an HRIS system, such as ADP Workforce Now.
  • Provide direction and support to consultants, fellows, interns, and other internal stakeholders engaged to support broader Talent and DEIRJ initiatives and projects.
  • Navigate confidential matters that require sensitivity and discretion.
  • Support development and refinement of compensation philosophy and strategies including compensation framework, salary equity audits, and promotion practices.
  • Support relationships, contracts, renewals with HR and benefits systems and vendors.
  • Keep up-to-date with trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in HR, talent management, and employment law to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws.


Culture, Learning and Development


  • Implement best practices, develop resources, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify external professional development opportunities that advance equity and support individual growth needs.
  • Plan and execute team meetings, retreats, and learning and team-building events that support a culture centered on our core values and promote belonging and inclusion.
  • Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of culture and learning & development initiatives.
  • Ensure that DEIRJ best practices are integrated into all HR functions including policy development, internal communications, talent initiatives, staff meetings, and other activities.
  • Support the execution of culture and employee engagement surveys, data review, and action planning with leaders and teams.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Support the co-management, design, and implementation of the Education Finance Analyst (EFA) program, in partnership with external stakeholders, which is designed to recruit and train early-stage professionals to succeed in mission-driven financial services roles.


Qualifications and Skills Requirements:


  • Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • SHRM Certified Professional or other related HR or OD certification course or program a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • QuickBooks or other payroll systems experience a plus.
  • Five years of related professional experience in HR and DEI in a professional and/or non-profit setting.
  • Passion about Civic’s mission to support high-quality education options for under-resourced communities.
  • Eagerness to learn and flexibly contribute to a small organization that thrives in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • ADP Workforce Now or other HRIS experience is a plus.
  • Lattice or other people management software platforms experience a plus.
  • JazzHR or other applicant tracking systems experience a plus.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities.
  • Familiarity with HR labor laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Google Suite (Google Drive, Docs, Slides and Sheets) a plus.

  • The salary range for this role is $80,000-$100,000, commensurate with experience.
  • Civic is located in New York, NY and has a hybrid, collaborative work environment. Local team members, and the Manager of People & Culture position, are expected to work two days in our NYC office with telework the rest of the week.
