FUNCTION
The Manager of Family Learning and Community Partnerships executes the development, implementation and growth of NYSCI’s community engagement programs and partnerships in collaboration with multiple NYSCI departments and community stakeholders to create an interconnected suite of STEM learning opportunities and positions NYSCI as a welcoming and trusted educational partner with our community.
The Manager of Family Learning and Community Partnerships will be responsible for cultivating relationships with community partners, including but not limited to schools, leading collaborative group meetings with other NYSCI departments, and overseeing a robust portfolio of family learning experiences that are responsive to community needs and align with NYSCI core assets. The Manager will also articulate and represent NYSCI’s community engagement core principles through presentations, conferences, publications, media, and other networks and assist the Director of Family Learning and Community Partnerships in the long-term, strategic growth, integration and alignment of all of NYSCI’s community engagement efforts.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Lead the implementation of co-collaborative groups with community partners, including Family Advisory Committee, District 24 School Leadership, Departmental Leaders Collaborative with executive staff, and NYSCI Programmatic Collaborative, to co-design community engagement experiences and establish consistent practices for assessing and responding to community needs in alignment with NYSCI core assets and institutional goals.
2.Develop and execute a strategy that supports institutional community engagement coordination, builds intentional collaboration across departments and strengthens NYSCI’s community engagement practices and approaches.
3.Cultivate and grow regional and national partnerships with current and new community engagement stakeholders including NYCDOE, community-based organizations and funders to disseminate and inform NYSCI’s community engagement model and program impact.
4.Oversee the design and implementation of family engagement experiences and resources that foster multi-generational learning for our community including but not limited to STEM Family days, community festivals and outreaches, and our Families Learning Together and STEM Backpack Toolkit program that integrates successful professional learning strategies for parents to support their child’s learning
5.Guide the development, analysis and dissemination of program and collaborative group assessments, annual community surveys, and other assessment methods for collecting community feedback to inform modifications and improvement.
6.Collaborate with Education Services staff and other NYSCI departments to implement community engagement programs/events, and develop shared responsibility and routines for making NYSCI a welcoming space for engaging our community across departments.
7.Create project report narratives and develop new concepts for family learning or community engagement grant funded opportunities that are aligned with NYSCI initiatives and best practices. Ensure documentation and appropriate data are collected that will inform program implementation and reporting.
8.Act as a representative of NYSCI’s community engagement initiatives and family engagement model through conferences, network meetings, publications, social media, etc.
9.Assist in maintain all budgets and expenses relating to grant projects.
10.Supervise and train 2 FT Coordinators dedicated to implementing a robust set of family engagement STEM learning experiences and events by delegating roles/responsibilities, conducting project team meetings to support professional growth/accountability and ensure meeting all grant deliverables.
11.Participate in departmental meetings and assist in other Education Services duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
B.A. or equivalent degree in science, education, museum studies or relevant field.
3 years of experience designing and implementing family learning programs for diverse audiences with an emphasis on Latino families
2 years of experience developing and implementing professional learning workshops for educators or adults
4-5 years of experience demonstrating leadership in overseeing community engagement programs or initiatives
4-5 year of experience demonstrating successfully establishing and growing collaborative partnerships with community leaders and community-based organizations.
Bilingual in Spanish (Oral and Written)
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
1.Familiar with pedagogy and culturally relevant teaching strategies for formal and informal settings that supports creative engaged STEM learning for parents, caregivers and their children.
2.Extensive knowledge on best practices in designing, implementing, and evaluating family learning and community engagement programs to achieve learning outcomes.
3.Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written; with excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
4.Skilled at managing staff and integrating practices to foster a collaborative and high performing team.
5.Flexible scheduling to participate in events outside the workday schedule and must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends, as needed.
6.Ability to effectively communicate and actively listen with internal and external stakeholders including partners, program participants, supervisors and other team members.
7.Ability to establish long-range objectives and specify the strategies and actions to achieve them. Develop policies, procedures, methods & standards within the department and in collaboration with staff.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
M.A. degree in the appropriate field
COMPENSATION
Commensurate with education, skills and experience; salary range is $68,000
