Responsibilities:
Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the areas of metallurgy, corrosion, and welding on oil and gas or chemical projects, including large capital projects. Determine methods and solutions for complex materials/corrosion engineering problems and select the most efficient and economical manner for meeting objectives. Apply advanced engineering techniques and analysis and thorough knowledge in using relevant industrial codes and standards, including but not limited to ASME, ASTM, API, MSS, NACE, MTI, etc. Develop and maintain metallurgy and corrosion specifications and liaise with all associated disciplines to complete and issue the specifications. Check Material Selection Diagrams (MSDs). Prepare specifications for projects in metallurgy, corrosion, and welding. Review and verify bid and requisition packages, piping specifications, mechanical data sheets or welding procedures. Understand project and discipline scope/cost/time requirements, assist the team to meet project schedules and expectations, and coordinate with other disciplines to ensure project success. Resolve fabrication problems and fitness for service issues. Assist in the development and update of department standards and procedures. Develop and build Client relations. Provide guidance/supervision to other engineers and function as a mentor to less experienced engineers. Develop training material and conduct technical seminars. Review and check repair methods in conjunction with non-metallic problem resolution and troubleshooting of fabricated equipment, piping and structural steel. Coordinate with the other project team members concerning common elements and act as liaison with other offices. Coordinate with and direct other Group and Department members specifically, metallurgists, welding engineers, non-metals materials engineers/specialists, mechanical engineers, and piping specifications engineers.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a closely related field and twelve (12) years of progressively responsible experience as a Materials Engineer or a similar occupation in oil and gas or chemical industry in the areas of metallurgy, corrosion and/or welding, including experience with large capital projects; experience applying relevant industrial codes and standards including but not limited to ASME, API, NACE and MTI requirements; experience in engineering and/or construction work process; experience with vessel and piping shops; experience in being Lead Materials/Corrosion Engineer for large capital projects; experience with available corrosion software, such as Predict 6 or similar; and experience with non-metallics to include coatings, insulation, fireproofing, refractory, plastics and elastomers as they apply to refining, chemical and petrochemical environments.
