Job Description

**Must be a City of Miramar Resident**


Earn while you learn! This position offers training and career development for youth in the community. Apprentice will be assigned a mentor and gain the necessary exposure to develop a greater understanding of IT concepts. Responsibilities will include resolving hardware, software, end-users’ computer-related problems on an ongoing basis to support the City of Miramar. Duties and responsibilities will incrementally increase to match skill sets. Work may be performed across multiple platforms and technologies. Additional certifications may be recommended. This apprenticeship program will help students gain real-world experience in Information Technology.

A start date for this Apprenticeship is under consideration.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Interacts and communicates daily with the immediate supervisor, manager, and City personnel.
  • Answer Helpdesk phone inquiries and provide excellent customer service.
  • Identify and escalate situations requiring urgent attention
  • Analyze, install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
  • Install and configure new IT equipment such as laptops, desktops, and printers
  • Resolve tickets in a timely and professional manner and escalates incidents to the next level as required.
  • Provide end-user technical support and technical directions as required.
  • Perform maintenance and systems changes to ensure optimal performance, improving efficiencies, performance, and reliability.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned and/or required.

Position Requirements/Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • Two (2) letters of recommendation; ONE (1) letter of moral character and one (1) letter from reference that supports the candidate’s ability to perform duties of the program
  • Must be able to pass a drug test
  • Currently enrolled in a technical program and/or pursuing a certificate or degree in Information Technology or related fields.
  • Must be a City of Miramar resident
  • Candidates must be between the ages of 18-26
  • Physically able to perform trade
  • Ability to commit to a two-year work contract
  • Must be able to work the required 20 hours per week
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical functions
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Acceptable drug test results, background check, and fit for duty evaluation upon job offer
  • Transportation to attend classes and work assignments
