Job Description
LESSON STUDY INSTRUCTIONAL COORDINATOR OVERVIEW
Coordinators are responsible for leading and delivering the STEM4Real Lesson Study Process, ensuring that all parts of the process are completed starting from administrator onboarding through partnership assessment. Coordinators ensure the objectives of the partnership contract are smoothly organized and implemented.
The role of a coordinator is both a facilitator and coach. In this program the role involves organizing and delivering the Lesson Study Process lessons via in person, virtually or hybrid, depending on the partnership. An Instructional Coordinator builds teacher capacity and the understanding of culturally responsive instructional practices, especially as it relates to our STEM4Real Framework of CONNECT-CREATE-CULTIVATE and develops a working relationship with administrators to ensure partnership objectives are being met. An Instructional Coordinator models continuous improvement, lifelong learning, and goes above and beyond to ensure educator and student success. The person for this role will promote reflection, provide guidance and structure where needed, and focus on strengths, collaboration and common issues of concern. Excellent communication skills are key along with a curious, flexible mindset.
This is NOT a supervisory position and DOES NOT include formal evaluation for Human Resources. Desired background experience(s) for this role includes:
Required: 5-10 Years of Teaching Experience in STEM
Required: 5-10 Years of Experience with Culturally Responsive Teaching and STEM based standards-based instruction (ex: NGSS, CCSS and EP&Cs)
Required: Professional Development Facilitation Experience with Adults
Required: Be U.S.-based
Required: Be able to clear a background/reference check
Required: Must have a computer and internet access
Desired: Program creation
Desired: Grant writing and implementation of grant deliverables
Desired: Experience writing and developing curriculum
The role is a part-time employee position. It requires approximately 15-20 hours per month.
Pay: $75 per hour. Travel may be required, but will be covered by STEM4Real depending on contract requirements. Instructional Coordinator will track their hours and will be paid on a monthly basis by STEM4Real
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Keys to the success of the tailor made lesson study program are the connection between administrators and educators during the 3D5E lesson planning development and the guided implementation phases of the program. Coordinators guide the process of lesson study and are not expected to be subject matter experts. There’ll be some crossover but for the most part, facilitators are focused on optimizing the lesson study process —leading insightful discussions, fostering knowledge sharing and helping people learn from the experience itself.
Ensure content and materials meet partnership requirements for every Lesson Study session. Coordinate with the Executive Director and Director of Operations in planning out the sessions to meet the objectives of the partnership contract. Coordinators will be expected to create agendas and organize presentation materials for each session.
Articulate and deliver the STEM4Real Lesson Study Process through virtual, in-person or hybrid modes. Coordinators will guide teachers to create case study student analyses, family engagement plans, a culturally responsive 3D5E lesson plan, and provide evidence of a 3D5E student artifact. They will develop relationships with administrators and educators within the partnership to ensure that the learning environment is conducive to brave and vulnerable learning and discussions about socially just and equitable teaching strategies for every student.
Assess and adjust the STEM4Real Lesson Study Process through virtual, based on educator progress and feedback. Coordinators will coordinate with the Executive Director and Director of Operations to administer and review educator progress based on exit tickets, and general feedback. Coordinators will adjust lesson delivery based on this information so that educator needs are met, in addition to meeting partnership contract objectives and requirements
Provide Coaching for educators throughout the lesson. Study.
Awareness of STEM4Real Programs and Services. Instructional Coordinators are ambassadors of STEM4Real and will be responsible for embodying STEM4Real vision, mission and values.
Moderate the PLC community forum. Support asynchronous conversations in the online forum on a rotating basis with other instructional coaches
Attend regular internal meetings for planning, continued
capacity-building and organizational learning.
Culminate facilitation sessions into an After Action Report. Document each facilitaion progress and reflections of participants as they implement STEM4Real strategies into their respective areas.
