POSITION:Human Resources Technical Assistant
PAY GRADE:Pay Plan 000, Pay Grade 20 (-03)
Salary Range $16.46 - $27.53 Hourly
$ 1,316.80 - $ 2,202.40 biweekly
$ 34,236.80 - $ 57,262.40 annually
LOCATION:3501 Harry Langdon Blvd, Council Bluffs, IA 51503
WORK UNIT:Department of Education; Iowa Education for Deaf and Blind
DESCRIPTION:Performs administrative support work with the highest regard to confidentiality and discretion in established human resource office supporting Iowa School for the Deaf and Iowa Educational Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired within the Iowa Department of Education.
Your Responsibilities:
- Assist with other office tasks as needed such as scheduling travel arrangements; completing purchasing needs.
- Update and post to organization websites and social media pages.
- Create new forms, questionnaires, advertisements, and other agency documents and ensure accessibility of those.
- Create recruitment plans; submit job postings – including online positions; research appropriate recruitment sources based on reaching the appropriate applicants.
- Prepare documents and paperwork for new employee orientation; staff meetings; etc.
- Review and submit workers’ compensation First Report of Injury forms; keep Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) injury logs and prepare annual reports
- Provide information to supervisors, employees, and applicants about pay, benefits, collective bargaining agreements, job descriptions, minimum qualifications, employment application processes, and other human resources information.
- Process eligible applicant lists; send notices to applicants and respond to applicant questions; process pre-employment an on-going background investigation forms; maintain files; post job announcements; schedule and prepare for interviews.
- Provide support for other departments within Iowa School for the Deaf, Iowa Educational Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the Department of Education.
- Notify supervisors about performance evaluations deadlines and other human resources information.
- File human resources documents, position description questionnaires, performance evaluations, and other materials in employee personnel files.Update human resources records and databases.

Hours: 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday
A successful candidate will bring or have the ability and desire to learn:
- Must have the ability to reach the level of sign language proficiency designated for the position within the timeframe established by policy.Willingness to use sign language as needed.
- Attention to detail and excellent organization skills.
- Maturity of judgement and behavior.
- Openness and respectful approach to a variety of individuals.
- Maintains high standards of work area and appearance.
- Strong written and in-person communication skills including communicating effectively in writing and in-person as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Sign language skills or experience or knowledge of deafness and/or vision related fields.
- Experience working in Human Resources

QUALIFICATIONS:Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
1) Two years of full-time work experience performing administrative support work.
2) A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where 30 semester hours of accredited post-high school course work equals one year of full-time experience.
3) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to one year of full-time administrative support work in a human resources-related program area.
