Job Description
Description:

PCG is looking for a Healthcare Auditor who is responsible for examining and evaluating the financial and operational processes within healthcare organizations to ensure compliance with regulations and industry standards. Their primary role is to assess the accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness of healthcare providers' financial and administrative systems, as well as their adherence to legal and regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

  • External Audit Liaison: Serve as the point of contact for external auditors, regulatory agencies, and government representatives during audits or investigations. Facilitate information sharing and coordinate responses to audit inquiries.
  • Data Analysis: Utilize data analysis tools and techniques to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies within healthcare data, including claims data, financial records, and operational metrics. Perform statistical analysis to support audit findings and recommendations.
  • Compliance Review: Evaluate healthcare providers' adherence to legal and regulatory requirements, such as HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), Medicare, Medicaid, and other applicable guidelines.
  • Training and Education: Provide guidance, training, and education to healthcare staff regarding audit findings, compliance requirements, and best practices to foster a culture of compliance and improve overall performance.
  • Conduct Audits: Perform comprehensive audits of healthcare providers' financial records, billing processes, coding practices, and operational procedures to identify any discrepancies, irregularities, or areas of non-compliance.
  • Internal Control Evaluation: Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls within healthcare organizations to safeguard assets, ensure data integrity, and prevent fraud or misuse of resources.
  • Stay Updated: Stay abreast of changes in healthcare regulations, industry trends, and auditing standards. Continuously enhance professional knowledge and skills through training and professional development opportunities.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed audit reports outlining findings, recommendations, and corrective actions required to address identified deficiencies. Present findings to management, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies as needed.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement within healthcare organizations to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure compliance with industry best practices.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and vulnerabilities in the healthcare organization's operations and financial systems. Develop strategies and recommendations to mitigate these risks and improve overall compliance.
Requirements:

  • Ethical Conduct: Healthcare auditors are expected to adhere to high ethical standards and maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive healthcare information. They should possess integrity, objectivity, and professionalism in their work.
  • Experience: Previous experience in healthcare auditing, healthcare finance, compliance, or a related field is often required. The specific years of experience may vary depending on the organization and the level of the position.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary to effectively communicate audit findings, recommendations, and complex concepts to stakeholders and management. Healthcare auditors should also be skilled in active listening and have the ability to build rapport with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Education: A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, healthcare administration, or a related field is typically required. Some organizations may prefer candidates with a master's degree or professional certifications in auditing, such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certified Healthcare Auditor (CHA).
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Staying updated on changes in healthcare regulations, industry guidelines, and auditing standards is crucial for healthcare auditors. Continuous learning and professional development are important to ensure ongoing compliance and effectiveness in the role.
  • Analytical and Critical Thinking Skills: Healthcare auditors must possess strong analytical and critical thinking abilities to evaluate complex financial and operational data, identify trends and patterns, and detect potential risks and compliance issues. Attention to detail and the ability to think strategically are also important.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Healthcare auditors often work as part of a team, collaborating with other auditors, healthcare professionals, and various stakeholders. The ability to work well in a team, contribute effectively, and manage priorities is valuable.
  • Knowledge of Healthcare Regulations: A strong understanding of healthcare regulations, such as HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid, and other relevant industry standards, is essential. Familiarity with auditing standards, such as Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), is also important.
  • Compliance and Audit Skills: Candidates should have a solid grasp of auditing principles, techniques, and methodologies. They should be skilled in conducting audits, risk assessments, and internal control evaluations. Knowledge of data analysis and audit software tools is a plus.
