Second Chance is a place where justice involved San Diegans go to find hope, purpose, and opportunity.
Offering five evidence-based programs, each staffed by a dedicated team of caring professionals, Second
Chance is regarded throughout the greater San Diego area as a leader in helping formerly incarcerated
and justice involved citizens successfully reintegrate into society.

What We Do
Second Chance helps hundreds of justice-involved youth and adults receive the services they need to
find a better path through job readiness training, case management, counseling, and transitional
housing programs. We are dedicated to our mission of “disrupting the cycles of incarceration and
poverty to help people find their way to self-sufficiency.”

We believe that everyone, regardless of their past, deserves the chance to shape a stronger future for
themselves, their family, and their communities.

Program Summary
Second Chance youth programs are focused on helping young people overcome neglect, abuse, criminal
backgrounds, addiction, and poverty. Personalized programs exist for prevention, support during
incarceration and reentry assistance after release. The Youth Garden provides eight-weeks of hands-on
urban farming, nutrition classes and workforce training. Youth earn a weekly stipend and gain job
readiness skills.

The Receptionist, Administration reports to the Agency Coordinator. The Receptionist is responsible
for being the first impression to Second Chance by greeting, screening and directing guests, answering
incoming calls to the Agency and routing calls to respective parties. This role will also provide a wide
range of office administration support. This position is responsible for a wide range of activities to
include but are not limited to:


  • Greet, screen, and direct guests as the first impression to the organization;
maintain guest signage and welcome signs.
  • Learn the history and status of Second Chance programs and our mission so that
you can appropriately receive screen and route calls.
  • Answer and direct multi-line telephone system.
  • Take complete and accurate messages and notify appropriate persons.
  • Maintain all activity logs and guest badges.
  • Maintain outgoing mailbox; notify Agency Coordinator when mail arrives. Handle
incoming/outgoing package delivery.
  • Participate in setting up and breaking down auditorium for organizational events.
  • Instruct applicants on procedure of completing application and process of intake.
  • Log Jail Mail into Apricot database.
  • Responsible for opening and closing duties associated with the front desk including
raising/lowering the flag.
  • Provide support for Administration and other clerical duties as needed.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and proper decorum in the lobby area of the building.
  • Report any incidents or safety concerns to Supervisor immediately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Proficient in data collection and software use.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Not-for-profit experience preferred.
  • Experience working with (justice involved youth or at-risk youth, adults) preferred.
  • Proficient in operating: Computer, fax, scanner, printer, copy machine and multi-line phone.
  • Minimum 1-year clerical experience.


Education

  • High School diploma or equivalency required.

  • This position is non-exempt (hourly), part-time, 40 hours/week. The rate of pay is $17 - $19 per
hour
