The Flight Operations Communication Specialist invests in the future of Southwest’s People in their work supporting the development and execution of communication strategies, particularly in the Flight Operations space. This role closely collaborates with Leaders, Subject Matter Experts and other stakeholders throughout Flight Operations and the Company in order to develop communication plans and messaging based on their input and the initiatives of the department. They have knowledge and are continually learning in the Flight Operations space to best execute communication plans. Initiatives can include things like procedure updates, Company Policy reminders/announcements, and more. The Flight Operations Communication Specialist is excited to join the impactful Flight Operations Team, where they’ll be able to connect with and champion our People. They’ll have the opportunity to learn and grow in their expertise each day and drive where their career with Heart takes them.

This role is a hybrid position based out of our Corporate Campus in Dallas, TX, which requires Employees to work onsite on our Corporate Campus at least three days a week. The Department designates the specific three days of the week Employees must work on-site.

Responsibilities
Contributes to the Flight Operations editorial calendar and overall engagement and communication plan
Works proactively with assigned Department Leaders on upcoming changes and communication needs and creates a plan to disseminate information well in advance
Partners with key stakeholders (Department Leaders and Subject Matter Experts) to collect input on communication content
Drafts communication and facilitates appropriate review process
Provides communication counsel to assigned Department Leaders, preparing presentations and talking points for Sr. Leaders
Responsible for timely communication and updates related to initiatives in assigned areas
Determines the right communications solution for the opportunity at hand
Researches and responds to questions/comments that relate to assigned areas
Assists with writing/editing for various channels
Participates in meetings, on special project Teams, and in delivering presentations as needed
May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of communication and editing best practices
Skilled in oral communication and presentation delivery when facilitating discussions
Skilled in Microsoft Office products, especially Word and PowerPoint
Ability to expresses ideas clearly in documents that have organization, structure, grammar, language, and terminology adjusted to the characteristics and need of the audience
Ability to prepare thoughtful, integrated communication plans
Ability to demonstrate autonomy by leading communication strategy, gathering content from multiple sources, obtaining and coordinating the proper approvals, and writing appropriately timed content to be delivered on an extensive scale and platform Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
Entry level experience, developing skills and knowledge in:
corporate communication, writing, editing, video, podcasts, presentations, and Leadership talking points
Licensing/Certification

Physical Abilities
Ability to perform work duties from limited space work station/desk/office area for extended periods of time
Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
Must meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary and sensitive Company information
Air travel with occasional overnight stays required
Ability to work extended hours as needed
Pay & Benefits:
Competitive market salary from $67,200 per year to $70,000 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
