- Explain DNA results generated by forensic laboratories to lawyers, judges and juries
- Interpret DNA mixtures, including deconvolution of mixtures and assessments of number of contributors
- Serve as a staff scientist and consultant on cases that have forensic DNA evidence
- Keep current on research in forensic DNA, including new technologies, interpretation methods, and DNA transfer, persistence, prevalence and recovery
- Other duties as assigned
- Operate forensic DNA software, including GeneMapper, GeneMarker Osiris, STRmix and FST
- Perform statistical calculations on DNA mixtures and an understanding of statistical calculations such as likelihood ratios, the Combined Probability of Inclusion, and the Random Match Probability
- Train lawyers and investigators in basic concepts in forensic DNA analysis and interpretation
- Excellent speaking and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge and experience of procedures within the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner
- Knowledge and experience with STRmix, FST, GeneMapper, GeneMarker and Osiris
- Three or more years of experience in criminalistics or forensic science
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, with specialization in criminalistics, forensic science, chemistry, biology, physics, molecular genetics, genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, entomology, anthropology, ecology or a closely related scientific or engineering field
- Knowledge and experience with DNA software analysis and interpretation tools

Salary Range
$65,000 to $66,300
