About the Job


We are currently looking for a detail-oriented, organized and collaborative Director, Revenue to join our dynamic, high-growth beauty company. This role will report directly to our Assistant Controller.


The Director, Revenue will be responsible for leading our revenue, credit and collections, and sales deductions functions as well as the day-to-day record to report which includes reviewing period-end entries/transactions and account reconciliations, establishing credit and collection policies, and performing estimates of variable consideration, related to sales allowances for completeness and accuracy. The role will be an inventory liaison for external auditors for audits while collaborating with the internal team and internal auditors to ensure successful audit results and compliance. We are also looking for someone who can provide technical accounting expertise in revenue recognition, customer incentives and allowance, and other topics in US GAAP and who can document accounting treatment recommendations, key estimates and judgments based on historical trends and benchmarked research.


The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of experience in Accounting, including supervision or management of accounting teams. Experience with Revenue and Accounts Receivable accounting experience is necessary as is direct experience with Accounting ERP systems (NetSuite and SAP, preferred). We are also looking for someone with public company experience and/or consumer products company experience with excellent knowledge and application of US GAAP who is a passionate and committed leader able to build plans and develop/manage a team of auditors to deliver excellent results. This position is based can be based in any of our e.l.f. offices (Oakland, L.A. or NYC) or can be fully remote.


Detailed Responsibilities and Requirements


Responsibilities


Core Accounting

  • Act as inventory liaison for external auditors for audits, including reviewing and/or preparing work papers for the auditors and analyzing data. Collaborate with internal team and external and internal auditors to ensure successful audit results and compliance.
  • Maintain and execute system of SOX controls related to assigned areas accounting, coordinating cross-functionally to ensure end-to-end controls compliance.
  • Evaluate, develop, implement, and monitor accounting and operational policies and procedures for record to report areas, with an emphasis on improving accuracy and timeliness, reducing risk, and strengthening compliance; especially the reduction of manual, Excel-based activities.
  • Perform transactional and financial research to analyze internal and external impacts related to revenue, accounts receivable, and sales allowances, for variances and reasonability.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day record to report which includes reviewing period-end entries/transactions and account reconciliations, establishing credit and collection policies, and performing estimates of variable consideration, related to sales allowances for completeness and accuracy.
  • Lead revenue, credit and collections, and sales deductions functions.

Technical Accounting Based on US GAAP

  • Provide technical accounting expertise in revenue recognition (ASC 606), customer incentives and allowance, and other topics in US GAAP.
  • Document accounting treatment recommendations, key estimates and judgments based on historical trends and benchmarked research.
  • Evaluate new revenue streams/products for proper revenue recognition under ASC 606.


Project Management and Execution

  • Build and develop a team of subject matter experts in applicable GAAP and operational accounting best practices through system of coaching, training, motivation, goal setting, and direct review of work product.
  • Identify, design, document and implement process improvements to support ongoing operations and transformation initiatives.
  • Flexibly support the finance and executive team on ad-hoc requests.
  • Leverage financial systems to automate processes for improved control and speed to close.


Requirements


  • CPA or MBA preferred (Big 4 a plus)
  • Problem solver who loves to continuously learn and who isn’t afraid to take on new challenges, while knowing when to ask for help
  • Excellent knowledge and application of US GAAP
  • Results-oriented, with a track record of scaling, leading, and driving improvements
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, with 10+ years Accounting experience, including supervision and management of accounting staff
  • Solution orientated and innovative with the desire to bring ideas forward and get involved in all areas of the business
  • Excellent communication skills to build strong relationships with a broad range of stakeholders across the business and to present findings effectively to senior leadership and directors
  • Ability to perform tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism
  • Direct experience with Accounting ERP systems (NetSuite and SAP, preferred)
  • Flexible to respond to requests and work cross-functionally
  • Public Company experience and/or consumer products company experience a plus
  • Strong project management skills
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in Excel and proficiency in Microsoft Office
