Job Description

Company Overview: Our client is a leading renewable energy company, operating a diverse portfolio of wind, solar, and battery storage projects across the United States. Their mission is to drive the transition to clean energy and contribute to the success of clean energy projects by actively engaging in state and local-level policy initiatives. They are expanding their Energy Policy and Advocacy team to strengthen their presence and engagement on regulatory and policy issues across the United States, where they operate a multi-gigawatt fleet and are developing a robust pipeline of renewable energy projects. This role will also focus on the rapidly growing sector of green hydrogen and other green fuels.

Role Summary: As the Director, Renewable Energy Policy and Advocacy, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing strategies for policy and regulatory advocacy to support our client's business priorities. Your primary focus will be on targeted regions across the United States. You will work creatively and collaboratively to build support for key policies and projects while leading our client's efforts in the green energy sector nationwide. Your responsibilities will include engaging with industry associations, representing our client in legislative and regulatory forums, building relationships with policymakers and stakeholders, and advising on community engagement plans. Additionally, you will keep the relevant business leads updated on legislative and regulatory dynamics that impact our client's projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Build support for key policies and projects through creative and collaborative efforts.
  • Cultivate relationships with policymakers and key stakeholders, including state and local elected officials.
  • Develop and implement strategies for policy and regulatory advocacy in targeted regions across the United States.
  • Represent our client in industry associations and coalitions focused on legislative, regulatory, and political work.
  • Manage local lobbyists and consultants when necessary to support our client's priorities.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislative and regulatory dynamics and communicate their impact to relevant business leads.
  • Lead our client's policy activities related to green energy nationally, working closely with industry associations.
  • Collaborate with business development and technology teams to shape our client's green energy business, including market entry decisions and sector focus.
  • Advise on community engagement plans for projects in development and operation.

Requirements:

  • Collaborative spirit and the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Comfortable with fast-changing priorities and ambiguity in a new area of policy and business development.
  • 5+ years of experience working on energy policy, legislation, and/or regulation at the state and regional levels.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50%.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information concisely and tailor messages to various audiences.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a track record of developing and implementing initiatives, legislation, or business plans.
  • A solid understanding of the complex political and regulatory landscape for renewable energy in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or Graduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., energy, economics, law, policy).
  • Regulatory and market policy experience in green fuels or conventional fuels.
  • Experience with energy markets such as FERC and RTO/ISOs.
