Job Description

Job Summary:

The Director of Safety is responsible for managing the safety and risk associated with our construction projects, and company operations. They will proactively plan, direct, and implement Strada’s safety program, and create an accident-free work environment in accordance with Workmen’s Compensation as well as Fleet, to drive down organizational costs.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that the safety coaches maintain the OSHA safety log and other administrative requirements related to safety operations and regulations.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Stops operations and activities that could harm employees or equipment.
  • Provides technical and administrative support to the safety committee.
  • Responsible for site visits to all warehouses and shop locations.
  • Reviews accident and incident reports.
  • Conducts employee training on applicable safety standards at all shop locations.
  • Responsible for Safety scorecards for each site location.
  • Develops a comprehensive safety plan for the entire organization.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
  • Ensures completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Collaborates with leadership to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures.
  • Reviews safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates for organization.
  • Conducts safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of current company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Ability to conduct training.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field required.
  • At least five years of occupational health and safety experience in an industrial environment required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel throughout facility as required to conduct safety inspections.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
