OVERVIEW

The Director of Safety and Security supervises and promotes the security and safety of the school community and property; develops, oversees, and evaluates a comprehensive school safety plan; participates in all crisis and emergency planning; and ensures the school’s routine maintenance is completed in a timely and satisfactory manner. This is a full-time, 12-month position. Charlotte Preparatory School is a PK-8 school of 400 students located in Charlotte’s SouthPark neighborhood. www.charlotteprep.org

Requirements

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

• Oversee and ensure successful completion of the school’s routine maintenance
• Form close connections with the school community and be a warm and approachable presence on campus
• Manage all security infrastructure, including door lock systems, perimeter security, video and CCTV, visitor log-in systems, and emergency response tools
• Serve as a member of the school’s crisis team
• Contract and oversee additional security for special events and programs
• Patrol the campus at regular intervals to ensure high visibility and community safety
• Partner with school leadership to develop and implement all school safety and security plans, policies, training, practices, and procedures
• Oversee the management of parking and traffic regulations on campus
• Maintain close professional relationships with local law enforcement

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

• Excellent communication and technology skills
• Experience in emergency management
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• Experience in facilities management desired
• At least 10 years of experience in security or public safety; experience in school security is strongly preferred
• Ability to develop and maintain positive interactions with multiple constituents
• Physically able to patrol campus and respond quickly to emergencies
• Certified in CPR, first aid, and AED
• Knowledge of school security and safety procedures
• Ability to manage multiple roles and responsibilities
• Patience, courage, good judgment, approachability, reliability
