Job Description

Type: Full-time, Exempt

Location: Main Campus, West Palm Beach

SUMMARY: Responsible for overseeing the Public Safety Department Support Services Division, which includes a 24/7 Communications Center, Mass Notification and Access Control Systems, as well as procurement and purchases for the department.

Responsibilities:

Administration

  • Responsible for submitting annual budget requests and ensuring fiscal responsibility within the department.
  • Serves as a Christian role model for administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents, and the university community.
  • Recommends new and/or changes to policy, procedures, and directives.
  • Manages fleet maintenance and oversees fleet repair projects.
  • Makes recommendations for departmental technology upgrades or enhancements.
  • Maintains confidentiality in dealing with administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents, and the university community.
  • Responsible for procuring all department supplies, equipment, uniforms, hardware, and software.
  • Special projects and investigations as requested by the Major of Support Services.
  • Direct supervision of all dispatchers, including scheduling coverage for a 24/7/365 operation.

Communication and Surveillance

  • Prepares and delivers department specific training to various departments within the university community as requested and/or directed.
  • Responsible for the care and operation of all communications equipment.
  • Responsible for the integration, functionality, training, operation, and maintenance of the university’s mass notification system.
  • Directly supervises the surveillance observation stations, including staffing and scheduling concerns of all positions.
  • Responsible for the daily oversight of the university’s camera surveillance system and various hardware and software-related applications.
  • Reviews and traps historical surveillance data for investigations as requested.
  • Responsible for the integration, functionality, training, operation, and maintenance of the university’s surveillance system, including hardware and software.
  • Manages FCC Radio Licensing and maintenance.
  • Manages Radio Maintenance and repairs.
  • Prepares and delivers department specific training to the Patrol Division as it relates to communications.
  • Responsible for daily radio traffic and telephone communications operations.
  • Manages the coordination of all communications training to include Field Training Program (onboarding) and in-service training for all dispatchers.
  • Manages the daily operations of the Department of Public Safety Communications Division, including staffing and scheduling concerns.
  • Responsible for ensuring surveillance equipment is properly functioning on a daily basis.
  • Maintains the communications software and hardware.
  • Manages the Mass Notification Systems.

Records Management

  • Schedules program or firmware updates as required by software manufactures for systems used by the Department of Public Safety.
  • Manages record requests and disseminates records to the appropriate parties as needed.
  • Provides daily, weekly, or monthly reports as needed to requesting parties.
  • Oversees the management and integrity of the property/evidence locker.
  • Provides access to new users based on credentials.

Access Control and Identification Systems

  • Responsible for the supervision and oversight of the Access Control Specialist/Key Custodian position.
  • Oversees the Front Desk Coordinator and Security Technicians.
  • Facilitate card services to the community as requested.
  • Research and provide cost analysis as requested.
  • Coordinates and schedules projects as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Understanding of Christian higher education strongly desired.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to respond professionally to inquiries and complaints from students, parents, staff, faculty, and various constituencies of the college.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of safety and security techniques, communications, and various hardware and software applications.
  • Positive interpersonal skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A 4-year degree from an accredited college or university and 7-years experience in Law Enforcement or Security Services.
