Job Description

The purpose of this role is to support the Museum of Arts & Sciences (MOAS) mission by developing and implementing the Museum’s strategic fundraising goals. As part of the leadership team, the Development Director will coordinate and implement a fundraising strategy for individuals, foundations, and corporate support throughout the Daytona region and beyond. The Development Director will work with the Executive Director to operationalize, oversee, and expand annual fundraising activities for MOAS. The ideal candidate will build donor relationships with existing and potential donors to grow the Museum’s donor base and inspire existing members and donors to greater levels of commitment. A proven track record of successfully building relationships, soliciting major gifts, and managing staff is critical. The ideal candidate will have a passion for MOAS’ art, history, science, education, and community engagement. Success in the position will be defined by driving a cohesive development program and demonstrating both initiative and creativity to reach ambitious fundraising goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

Strategy/Leadership

  • Develop and maintain the development department budget, including analysis, reporting, and forecasting.
  • Take ownership of all Strategic Plan goals related to fundraising.
  • Implement and manage full development department plan
  • Collaborate with the key education and curatorial staff to develop and implement giving strategies utilizing and growing the organization’s portfolio of donors, supporters, and prospects.

Donor Relations

  • In partnership with the Executive Director, manage a portfolio of individual donors and prospects to provide charitable donations to the museum; maintain regular correspondence with program officers of foundations and corporate representatives.
  • Along with the Executive Director, identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors to build the organization’s network to deepen relationships with individual donors, foundations, and businesses.
  • Ownership and relationship strategies with Museum Guild, set goals and oversee strategies for overall fundraising efforts.
  • Attend and participate in museum and community events to meet new members, prospects, and donors; represent the museum in a professional manner with diplomacy and confidentiality.
  • Oversee membership program and work with Development Manager to strategize annual efforts for growth and membership value

Fundraising

  • In partnership with programmatic staff and the Development Manager, research new grant opportunities and oversee the grants calendar, including proposals and reports.
  • Develop and execute a fundraising calendar; solicit and close individual gifts, coordinate annual fund campaigns, and meet with corporate partners to develop sponsorship opportunities.
  • Work closely with Development Manager to oversee grants program and reporting requirements.
  • Provide detailed fundraising progress reports, help establish performance measures, monitor results, and utilize Altru database to document fundraising activities.
  • In partnership with the Executive Director, create and implement a strategic fundraising program with a focus on achieving Museum-wide goals.

Programs/Events

  • In collaboration with the leadership team, envision, design, and manage the annual fundraising special event.
  • Manage the Museum Guild and Corporate membership programs, send out membership communication, and coordinate a successful and consistent delivery of membership benefits.

Supervision

  • Supervise two full-time development team members.
  • Engage and manage museum volunteers and strategize improvements to overall program.
  • Conduct annual merit performance evaluations for direct reports.

Qualifications

  • Capital and/or Endowment Campaign experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in measuring data and outcomes of fundraising appeals, campaigns, membership, and events for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Excellent financial management skills, including experience with developing and managing budgets.
  • A Bachelor's degree and minimum 5 years of experience in development / fundraising with demonstrated success.
  • Genuine interest and commitment to the arts, culture, science and history field.
  • Experience managing staff and/or a department.
  • Experience with CRM database (Altru) preferred.
  • A strong communicator and writer; relationship-builder of the highest integrity.
  • Experience with project management, including conceptualizing projects, planning, and execution.
