Job Description

The Conductive Education Center of Orlando (CECO) has been providing hope for families with children and adults with cerebral palsy and neurological motor disabilities that have been searching for a place where the impossible IS possible. CECO offers eight programs to address every age group for these lifelong conditions, so progress is continually a goal!


The Director of Development is an integral member of the team, providing leadership for philanthropy strategy and driving fundraising for the organization. The ideal team member will be a creative thinker, and diligent implementer, with a proven ability to successfully guide supporters, donors, and potential donors through the fundraising process.


What You'll Do

  • Lead the Development Department staff, consisting of up to but not limited to, Annual Fund Manager, Events Coordinator, Communications Coordinator, Interns and Volunteers.
  • Manage a team of development staff and provide performance evaluations for individuals under supervision.
  • Facilitate community awareness and governmental advocacy at local, state, and national levels.
  • Hire, train, and oversee the staff and activities associated with a Capital Campaign
  • Manage the solicitation process, including recommending proposal ask amounts and monitoring committee/volunteer assignments.
  • Create, monitor, and maintain departmental metrics for donors, major gifts, activity, and stewardship.
  • Develop, promote, and maintain a wide range of corporate investment opportunities within the organization.
  • Develop and implement an annual development plan and strategy with responsibility for a specified annual fundraising goal.
  • Develop highly competitive proposals for corporate and foundation prospects.
  • Implement, track, and follow up on annual, sponsorships, planned giving, other giving campaigns, and other department initiatives.
  • Coordinate the timely dispatch of acknowledgment letters for financial and in-kind donations.
  • Utilize appropriate development reporting processes; monitor and objectively evaluate.
  • Oversee the execution of annual fundraising and stewardship events, including monthly point-of-entry events, and donor recognition events.
  • Manage a portfolio of 100 or more major gift-level prospects, including corporations, through the entire cycle of development – from research and identification through cultivation, solicitation, closure, and stewardship.
  • Develops strong relationships with individual donors, philanthropic foundations, corporations, and friends of the organization for the purpose of securing major gifts and sustainable funding for current and future projects.
  • Establish short- and long-term goals for the development effort, including fundraising strategies and building the case for support.
  • Create and implement departmental budget and be responsible for attaining.
  • Responsible for a specified corporate giving goal, separate from special events, through the management of a donor portfolio.
  • Implement and follow through with consistent donor acknowledgment and stewardship and maintain consistent contact with major donors.
  • Establish and maintain a corporate giving program.


What You'll Need

  • Passion for improving the lives of children and adults with special needs.
  • Bachelor's Degree in sales, marketing, business management or a related field
  • Ability to work under time pressures with multiple priorities and deadlines with accuracy.
  • Proven and demonstrated ability to cultivate, solicit, and steward major gifts of $25,000 and above.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Google and MS office suites.
  • Supervisory experience of at least 3 other development team members
  • Demonstrated experience in a position that required exceptional written, speaking, and listening skills.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising.
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification.
  • Experience with Gift works, and/or other relevant fundraising and financial software. Experience in a sales environment.
  • Minimum 4-6 years experience in major donor and gift solicitation, or an equivalent combination of related experience.
