Let’s talk about the role!

The primary responsibility for this position is to be accountable for and drive the company’s operational goals and oversee day to day operations of tattoo shops on each Virgin Voyages cruise ship. Work closely with the General Manager to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes and personnel. Responsible for meeting revenue goals that support corporate’s top line while improving efficiency to bottom line growth.In addition, partner with Sales and Finance to ensure forecasting, quality, and supply chain are running optimally. This position is responsible for ensuring all day-to-day operations, including purchasing, planning, maintain continuous quality while reviewing process improvements to ensure attainment of operational goals, tactics, and priorities that drive business results with a focus on quality.

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Hold weekly meetings with the Virgin Voyages staff to discuss revenue, artist bookings, changes to schedule, etc.
  • Manage artist schedule and documentation needed to onboard artists into shop
  • Responsible for purchasing supplies and inventory as needed and forecasting inventory needs for a 3 month look forward to maintain accurate preferred stock levels.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.
  • Assist with budget preparation for capital planning and expenditures for operations unit
  • Hires, trains, develops and evaluates staff. Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Ensures compliance with current federal, state and local regulations. Consults with Human Resources Department as appropriate.
  • Ensure studio standards, revenue actions, and ship specific needs are taken care of when ship is in port.
  • Work with Finance to run the budgeting process and effectively manage all the financial impacts within Squid Ink
  • Update SR leadership monthly on revenue standings, recaps, and any other pertinent information.
  • Maintain accurate inventory counts for all areas. Complete any inventory transfers, PO’s or reconciliations as needed.
  • Visit ships when they are in port in Miami. Deliver any urgent supplies, check-in with artists, managers and resolve any issues.
  • Sail on ship 1-2 times per month to monitor operation, address opportunities for improvement and train & coach managers as needed.
  • Oversee all aspects of the corporation’s operations including quality control, order fulfillment, operational efficiencies, capacity optimization, brand management, margin improvement and vendor and other partner relations
  • Handle Voyage End Process to include: end of voyage paperwork, sales reporting in NetSuite, inventory adjustments, payroll for managers and artists, etc.
  • Create and measure operating KPI’s driving continuous improvement
  • Update master budget file with actual numbers for each voyage
  • Coordinates with Marketing and Sales departments to determine pricing, timing and number of sales promotions and products to be sold
  • Provide periodic and timely, accurate reports and records on the operating condition, quality and performance of the corporation to the GM.
  • Manage marketing consulting relationship to submit weekly content to marketing department for social media updates, promotions, etc.
  • Manage a high performing team of managers, tattoo artists and piercers to develop a best in class experience for Squid Ink aboard the Virgin Voyages cruise ships.
  • Continuously improves processes to ensure product quality meets industry standard requirements and leads process and product quality investigations.
  • Motivate and lead a high performing team; attract, recruit and retain top talent; provide mentoring to development managers and supervisors
  • Maintain Virgin MXP POS System accuracy
  • Manage the rotation of the management team and coordinate all onboarding activities for new managers joining the group. This will include contract documents, employment authorization documents, pre-cruise trainings.
  • Create and monitor written policies and SOPs
  • Supports staff by facilitating onboarding, regular 1:1s and full team round table meetings in person or virtual when ship is in port or virtual when at sea.

Required Experience/Training/Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven experience as Director of Operations or equivalent position
  • A minimum of 7+ years in a corporate operations environment w/ an equivalent amount of experience accomplishing business objectives, supervising staff, setting goals and tracking performance
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to set strategy and lead a large diverse team
  • Excellent business acumen, problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to plan and manage operational process for maximum efficiency and productivity
  • Financial reporting to key stakeholders
  • Extensive knowledge of cruise operations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
  • Excellent managerial and supervisory skills.
  • Great planning and project management skills
  • Results-oriented Strong analytical skills and strong working knowledge of data analysis
  • At least 5 years of management for Maritime Cruise Operations required
  • Ability to interpret financial data as needed to set goals.
  • Strong knowledge of current Supply Chain industry practices
  • Bachelor’s in Business Administration, Finance, or in a related discipline, with certifications in operational excellence preferred
  • Knowledge of ERP systems and reporting preferably in NetSuite
