START DATE: ASAP

Background

Driven by a passion to solve the climate crisis, The Sunrise Project U.S. is a team of experienced change-makers with a mission to scale social movements to drive the global transition beyond fossil fuels. With affiliated programs and staff in Australia and Europe, we have developed a unique model of grant making and campaigning that supports networks of organizations to drive powerful change towards our mission. We have a dynamic and nimble organisational culture. We’re serious about supporting our people to thrive as we tackle the urgent climate challenge. We believe that a diversity of experiences and perspectives will help us build stronger strategies, teams, and movements. We take the broadest possible view of diversity and encourage First Nations people, people of color, people living outside of cities, people living with disabilities, neurodiverse, and LGBTQIA+ people to apply. We are continually working on becoming a better workplace for everyone.

About the Role

This is an exciting new role to design and build a corporate clean energy program to drive a rapid increase in corporate clean energy demand globally - with a particular focus in Asia. Leveraging sophisticated investor strategies and technical analysis coupled with staff engagement, grassroots organising, media, public campaigning, and a range of other strategies, we aim to rapidly escalate pressure on the world’s largest corporations to drive the transition to clean energy. Working closely with Sunrise Program Directors and the global leadership team, this role will be responsible for designing sophisticated, multi-dimensional global strategies, and then building the team to execute them through a global network of civil society partner organizations.

About You

You’re an experienced and collaborative leader with a global perspective and a passion for climate action and for holding corporations accountable for their role in driving the climate crisis. You’re a big picture systems thinker with a skill for developing and articulating clear strategies to cut through complex problems, with a deep understanding of how a wide range of different strategies and actors can work 2 together to create large-scale change. You’ve got a track record of designing and implementing campaigns that win real world outcomes. You understand how corporate power operates, how companies make decisions and how social movements can hold corporations to account effectively. You’re a collaborative leader who understands what it takes to build trust, nurture creativity and unleash the potential of teams. You’re an open and honest communicator with the ability to build strong relationships and nurture collaboration between diverse stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Overall coordination of The Sunrise Project’s Corporate Clean Energy Program with the aim of rapidly and radically increasing global corporate commitments to clean energy and driving shifts in key sectors including our existing auto program; • Leads the development of strategy and new programs, sets budgets, coordinates implementation, manages grant making and evaluate the program;

• Ensures the program builds the capacity of civil society to hold corporations accountable, and effectively constrains corporate power rather than entrenching it;

• Leads on high performance, collaborative and sustainable teamworking by fostering Sunrise’s culture and hiring, managing and developing talented individuals;

• Identifies emerging trends, threats and opportunities to hold corporations accountable for their climate impacts and hastens clean energy adoption;

• Works closely with our executive team to organize with our philanthropic partners to secure and aligns resources for the program;

• Ensures the Sunrise Project lives by its values and embodies justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in the way we operate.

• Ensures open and honest evaluation of our work and fosters a culture that recognizes the importance of failure and learning in our pursuit of greater impact. Required Skills and Experience

• Advanced experience in program and campaign design, development, and execution across multiple geographies within a complex campaign environment;

• Demonstrated ability to analyze power and to develop effective campaign strategies to achieve real world change;

• A working knowledge of corporate decision making and the drivers of corporate climate action;

• A deep understanding of the energy transition and the drivers and barriers to renewable energy adoption

• Demonstrated experience managing high performing teams and supporting people to do their best work;

• A high level of emotional intelligence with excellent interpersonal communication and group facilitation skills;

• A deep understanding of how social movement achieve change spanning inside engagement and outside pressure strategies;

• Experience working internationally, successfully managing across cultures, and a track record of creating inclusive work cultures;

• The ability to articulate complex strategies in simple and compelling ways;

• A passion for action on climate change and a commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. 3 Desirable Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
