Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for a mission-critical aspect of the Health Analytics unit: managing, organizing, analyzing, storing, and monitoring the data. The Data Manager has a detail-oriented, methodical, experienced and flexible approach to this work. The candidate has significant experience and facility with creating, organizing, validating and sharing large sets of epidemiologic data for use by researchers across a variety of settings and agencies. The Data Manager also works closely with the Chief Science Officer, Senior Epidemiologist, Associate Research Director and other Health Analytics senior researchers (e.g., epidemiologists, biostatisticians) to provide input on the design and specified analyses for epidemiologic investigations as well as assist with the development and execution of study protocols, statistical analysis plans, and the analysis and provision of data for client requirements and scientific reports. The Data Manager is responsible for the data validation process which involves working with a contract agency.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Oversee quality control process for data extraction, data analysis, and report generation.
- Creation and validation of production data sets
- Develop new and innovative solutions to data management challenges as they arise.
- Troubleshoot data related problems, communicate to the Team, and implement solutions
- Proactively identify and critically analyze problems related to data handling and movement. In some cases, may be involved in finding innovative, viable and long-lasting solutions.
Essential Education and Experience:
- Ability to manage client deliverables, including the delivery of client data files through various file sharing systems.
- Master of Science in Statistics, Masters of Public Health, or relevant field with a minimum of 5 and preferably more years of experience working in Epidemiology, Public Health or related fields
- Must be well-versed and fluent in handling large data sets and relational databases
- Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills
- When necessary, interface and manage relationships with vendors related to data management and analysis products.
- Ability to read and interpret existing SQL code to verify correct code.
- Must be well-versed and fluent in Python or PERL
- Ability to work with minimal supervision on complex projects.
- Must be able to design, understand, execute and verify thorough data validation and quality control of imported data. This will involve partnering with/supervising an (often) junior contractor at various parts of the process.
- Must have the ability to translate business requirements into database queries
- Must have detailed and thorough knowledge of manipulating data in Excel, including the ability to write queries and call existing functions to manipulate data and analyze results. Should have an understanding of VBA.
- Must be comfortable working with confidential data and information according to federal guidelines.
- Expertise in SAS including SAS Base, Stats, Graph, Macros, and the Output Delivery System (ODS)
- Ability to contribute to the development of reports and analysis.
- Ability to analyze multiple data sources to identify omissions or duplication
- Review new software as it becomes available and assist with implementation of new or upgraded software.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite applications
- Interface and work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to create and maintain procedures for all data handling and analysis practices
- Knowledge and experience with Transact-SQL is a plus
- Familiarity with SAS administration tasks including adding/deleting users, stopping and starting services, applying hot fixes, etc.

This position is remote and entirely computer-based. Planning and communication takes place during online meetings with the research team.
