Background & Position Summary


The National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) is the leading national voice for dignity and fairness for domestic workers in the United States. NDWA works for the respect, recognition, and inclusion in labor protections of domestic and home care workers across the country. NDWA is winning improved working conditions while building a powerful movement rooted in the human rights, dignity and equality of domestic workers, home care workers, immigrant women and Black women.


NDWA was founded in 2007 by domestic workers and organizers from around the country. Our national alliance has grown from this founding group of 13 organizations to now more than 70 affiliate organizations and local chapters developed by NDWA. To date, the Alliance comprises more than 250,000 nannies, housekeepers, and home care workers in all 50 states.


Care in Action is a (501c4) nonprofit, nonpartisan group dedicated to fighting for dignity and fairness for the millions of domestic workers in the United States, most of whom are women. Founded in 2016, Care in Action is backed by tens of thousands of nannies, house cleaners, and care workers across the country. We provide the tools, training, and community working families need to make their voices heard, and organize and advocate for respect, recognition, and inclusion in labor protections.


NDWA is seeking a superb creative and channel strategist who thinks ambitiously about how non-traditional communications persuades and activates audiences. This position will manage our social media, design and video for both NDWA and our c4, Care in Action (CiA) within the Communications Team. They will set strategy and generate sharp and original creative at a high level. The Content Director will collaborate crossteam with the digital, culture change and campaigns department to produce dynamic content promoting national and local organizing and policy campaigns, amplify our core narrative and brand, and offer compelling intersectional stories to tell a new story of labor, gender, and race/ethnicity in our country through our social media channels with the ultimate aim to increase our supporter base, engage membership, and shift the national conversation around care and domestic work.


This role reports to the Senior Communications Director and is fully remote.


PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


I. Content Strategy Across Social Media + Digital + Design + Video (60% of FTE)


  • Coordinate closely across NDWA teams for content creation and scheduling,
  • Metrics-driven; deliver online metrics and reporting monthly - utilize data to drive social media strategy and tactics
  • Ideate and generate compelling content that resonates with target audiences
  • Develop and execute a robust, multi-platform content and storytelling strategy
  • Work closely with design, digital, digital organizing and fundraising teams to generate content that increases viewership, drives engagement, refers traffic to the NDWA websites and helps drive lead and donor conversions
  • Stay on the cutting edge of industry trends and develop innovative and responsive strategies for maximizing those trends to broaden and deepen NDWA’s reach and engagement
  • Support the creation of content that helps promote the online profiles of NDWA’s leaders and spokespeople.
  • Ensure program plans are aligned with communications department strategy and organizational vision and priorities.
  • Build strong relationships with representatives at social media companies, vendors, creatives, consultants, and influencers.


II. Supervision & Management (35% of FTE)


  • Management of consultants as needed.
  • Manage three direct reports; Social Media Manager, Design Director and Videographer.
  • Supervise and support staffer(s), including hosting regular check in meetings, and providing feedback, evaluation, and professional development opportunities.


III. NDWA Responsibilities (5% of FTE)


  • Participate in staff meetings, staff study and retreats.
  • Complete work plans and reports in a timely manner.
  • Develop and satisfy a Professional Development Plan.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Able to think like an organizer about how we keep our audiences engaged after our initial contact with them, and understand what drives them
  • Ability and interest in collaborating with artists and creatives, a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suites
  • Proven ability to learn quickly, work independently, meet multiple deadlines with a keen attention to detail
  • Metrics-driven; comfortable with online metrics and reporting and experienced with using data to drive social media strategy and tactics
  • Experience distilling complex concepts, narratives and messages into strong creative ideas and compelling content
  • Experience managing staff, consultants and/or project teams
  • Strong project management skills, experience leading projects from beginning to end that involve collaboratively creating dynamic content
  • 5-7 years work experience working in digital/ social
  • Plus if you are familiar with the domestic worker sector and/or issues facing domestic workers and other low-wage workers
  • Experience communicating with a team across multiple channels (Slack, Zoom, etc) in a remote environment
  • Able to think like a marketer about what will grab our audiences and bring them in
  • Excellent writing skills with a keen eye for design and production
  • Ability to work and collaborate with diverse staff in person and remotely and as part of a high-performing team, in a fast-paced, experimental organization
  • Alignment with NDWA’s vision and values, including a commitment to economic, race and gender justice
  • Strong time and people management skills, including demonstrated ability to think independently
  • Extremely creative with an key for compelling, dynamic content creation across digital mediums
