Job Description
General Role Description:


Reporting to the Senior Manager, Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) Global External Communications, the Communications Manager, Imagineering will join a dynamic, fast-paced team responsible for a myriad of global initiatives that positively impact and bolster the reputation of Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Parks, Experiences and Products (DPEP). Successful candidates should be strategic thinkers with excellent writing and editing skills; handle confidential information with the utmost discretion; have experience working with media outlets; and expertly identify potential issues while simultaneously managing multiple high-profile projects.


This role proactively manages communication opportunities for a variety of capital projects, working with project teams and internal partners to develop integrated strategic plans. The communications manager regularly oversees media production, asset creation and message development, prepares spokespeople for interviews and provides event support. Identifying potential risks and outlining mitigation plans are also part of this role’s responsibilities, and on all projects, the manager handles sensitive information and works closely with executives on a variety of reviews and approvals.


Specific areas of accountability include:


  • Develop story ideas and write for multiple vehicles including project communication plans, fact sheets, web content, video news releases and podcasts
  • Serve as an advocate for WDI’s position and surface potential conflicts to leadership and management
  • Coordinate with project leaders and provide on-site support and oversight during filming/photography on construction sites for various internal and external needs
  • Manage speaking engagements and public appearances for project-specific presentations, meet & greets, book/DVD/art signings and more
  • Proactively identify significant milestones and news beats throughout the project life cycle, from concept to construction and through launch, and work with internal partners to execute
  • Lead strategic planning for assigned capital projects and serve as the primary contact for Imagineering partners and project teams
  • Expertly manage confidential and sensitive information on a daily basis
  • Maintain positive relationships with third-party media and industry partners
  • Interface with project executives, legal and human resource counterparts to ensure all approvals are obtained prior to publishing/posting/releasing content
  • Develop content that serves as proof points for The Walt Disney Company/DPEP/WDI strategic priorities and key reputation drivers; leverage DPEP social media content when appropriate
  • Evaluate opportunities and work with marketing strategy, public relations and public affairs to develop story arcs and integrated communication plans
  • Evaluate requests from alliance marketing and provide support for partner communication needs
  • Consider feasibility and appropriateness of project requests and provide editorial direction with input from WDI executives as needed
  • Contribute content and support WDI Communications globally, as needed
  • Develop external messaging and provide executives and project team members with media training and ongoing support
  • Manage high visibility media projects with key partners to promote DPEP strategies, including press events, site tours, FAMs, blog events and community/industry events
  • Partner with public affairs, public relations and marketing strategy to identify media opportunities to showcase Imagineers and the work they do

Basic Qualifications:


  • 3-5 years of communications or public affairs experience working with global brands
  • Excellent grammar skills and experience with copy editing along with an eye for design
  • Proficient in Word, PowerPoint/Keynote, Excel, Outlook, and other technology solutions for communication needs
  • Ability to work independently and function effectively in a team environment
  • Solid business acumen with strategic mindset
  • Demonstrated creative thinking and the ability to take initiative with projects and anticipate issues of concern
  • Strong project management skills with ability to prioritize to meet critical deadlines
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with maturity and confidence in working with colleagues at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to translate complex concepts and ideas into concise and engaging content for a variety of audiences and voices
  • Experience interfacing with global media outlets and high-profile speakers
  • Well organized and trustworthy with a high level of discretion


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience in photography, graphic design and/or video editing programs
  • Technical acumen, and an interest in/understanding of tech and innovation
  • Bilingual (any language is a plus)
  • Proficiency in Keynote and building effective presentations
  • Knowledge of Disney organization, with a proven network of partners


Required Education


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
