Disney Live Entertainment is currently seeking applicants for a Materials & Process Engineer temporary assignment. This role is instrumental in researching, developing, and implementing the materials used in costumes across the enterprise. The Materials & Process Engineer partners closely with Costume Designers, Digital Sculptors, internal and external vendors, as well as other stakeholders. The ideal candidate would be collaborative, budget and timeline minded, and a curious self-starter.
Responsibilities
- Research and identity outside vendors with proven capability to work with selected materials.
- Prepare material performance specifications.
- Participate in materials selection decisions during the development process.
- Handle confidential information pertaining to employees and intellectual property.
- Function as in-house materials expert in comparing the attributes of both traditional materials (composites, plastics, etc.) and new materials (foams, etc.) during product design.
- Provide technical consultation to the procurement administration process for the external contracting of production manufacturing.
- Provide technical consultation to manufacturing quality control for the manufacturing process in on-site manufacturing facilities and at external contractors.
- Function as an individual contributor or a team lead as projects require.
- Supervise testing of materials by outside contractors and summarizing and interpreting test results.
Basic Qualifications
- Experience communicating with a variety of stakeholders (written and verbal)
- Experience working in a team environment where collaboration is key
- Ability to be flexible with work schedule, including weekends and holidays
- Experience with continuous improvement process
- Experience with a wide variety of composites, plastics, foams, and similar materials is essential, as is familiarity with techniques for reformulation, molding, lay-up, and shaping
- Experience in project management
- Experience in planning, problem-solving, conflict resolution, influencing, and negotiating
- Experience in cost-per-unit analysis
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with textiles and/or alternative finishes
- Willing and able to travel
- Experience with human factors engineering and ergonomics
Required Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Education
- Advanced degree in Materials Engineering
