This intersection of ideas, beliefs, and skills is what makes us unique enough to lead the world’s largest network of digitally connected energy storage systems.
What we are looking for:
As a Business Development Analyst – BTM Markets, you will help lead key commercial initiatives with a focus on market expansion into new geographies and development of different capabilities for our Athena™ software. The business will depend heavily on your expertise in wholesale power markets and how they relate to retail customers in different geographies.
Leveraging your technical core, you will apply your background and knowledge of energy storage, electricity markets, utility tariffs and power systems to create detailed go-to-market (GTM) strategies for new markets and specific project opportunities. You will make recommendations to C-suite level executives and take ownership of several core initiatives.
Knowledge of retail end user behavior in a load management capacity, via distributed generation or load curtailment, is required. The ideal candidate will be able to take wholesale power concepts and walk end users through how these trends impact them, and how storage is positioned to help them reach long-term goals.
This position requires close collaboration across multiple internal stakeholders, such as finance, marketing, sales, product development, and operations, and a strong ability to be comfortable with and take ownership of ambiguous problems.
Responsibilities:
- Leverage industry contacts and networking abilities to drive forward strategic partnerships with other companies
- Develop frameworks to prioritize opportunities and evaluate the landscape of players and competitive environment for each opportunity
- Work effectively with diverse stakeholders including internal commercial and engineering teams as well as external partners to come up with the best solution
- Synthesize complex analyses into clear takeaways and recommendations to build consensus across the organization
- Identify market gaps that best play to Stem’s value proposition and long-term ambitions as a company
- Support analyses of sales opportunities in new or otherwise unreleased markets within Stem
- Keep up to date on renewable energy, energy storage, and utility market developments and support Stem market forecasts
- Identify product requirements for Stem’s battery energy storage solutions to capture prioritized market opportunities
- Drive quantitative analyses to evaluate current and future market size across different geographies for Stem’s Athena platform
- Research and interpret market rules and regulations to define requirements for storage operation in new markets
Requirements:
- Ability to work autonomously with excellent time management skills, focusing on key outcomes amidst competing priorities and tight deadlines
- Comfortable embracing ambiguity in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Knowledge of electricity market structures, specifically in PJM, ERCOT, CAISO and MISO.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics, math, or similar technical subject (or equivalent practical experience)
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in the energy industry in a technical or quantitative role (finance, sales engineering, consulting, etc)
- Limited (less than 20%) travel
- Excellent verbal and written communication, team collaboration, and organizational skills
- Fluency in MS Office tools and familiarity with common data science languages (Python/R) in order to run ad-hoc analyses.
Desired Skills
Experience with conducting market research analyses or project finance
Experience with participating in and/or facilitating demand response programs and/or wholesale power market participation.
Experience supporting the development of BTM and other distribution level assets.
Knowledge of different battery chemistries and technologies
Job Location
The preferred location for this role is in either the Boulder, San Francisco, or Austin area.
Stem will also consider remote work for the right applicants.
Compensation range is $79,500 to $111,400 for Remote Candidates
Compensation range may increase for hybrid or on site candidates in our San Francisco CA, Austin TX and Boulder CO offices.
