Job Purpose

This role will be responsible for transaction support covering all aspects of origination, structuring, and execution of power purchase agreements (“PPAs”), and other energy related procurement contracts across the Origination team’s North American footprint, which is comprised of wind, solar, transmission, and storage assets in both regulated and deregulated energy markets. The support of commercial deal activity includes analysis of the economics of the overall asset, contract settlement and market operations settlement mechanics, and economic value of the contract to the customer, as well as proposal drafting and tracking, market intelligence, and general coordination across Pattern’s North American development pipeline to pull these inputs into the broader deal at hand. Preferred candidates will have demonstrated experience in modelling and/or quantitative analytics with a desire to develop into commercial leadership.

Key Accountabilities

• Liaise with structured finance team on relevant activities and full integration of offtake structures into financial models.
• Analyse available products, risk factors, energy price forecasts, and competitive data for incorporation into overall offtake strategy.
• Support project marketing and proposal development, including economic analyses and sensitivities to identify key investment drivers.
• Conduct research on new markets, offtake products, and risks.
• Support the Origination & Power Marketing team in the process of structuring, negotiating, and closing power purchase agreements.
• Integrate input from a variety of internal functional areas into a cohesive and succinct product for internal approval processes and proposal responses.
• Interface with customers, coordinate proposal timelines and responses both internally and with counterparties.

Experience/Qualifications/Education Required

Educational Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field, such as Finance, Engineering, Math, or Economics.
• Advanced degree and/or CFA certification is a plus.

Required Work Experience

• Project Finance acquisition, management, or transaction experience is a plus.
• 2+ years in an analytical modelling role within the energy sector.
• Exposure to utility-scale, renewable energy development is strongly preferred.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong understanding of the structure and function of the North American wholesale and bulk power markets.
• Knowledge of common data synthesis tools and techniques in Excel (or equivalent program), such as Index/Match, Data Tables, and VBA/Macros.
• Ability to organize time well and set proper priorities.
• Ability to work in a collaborative environment where teamwork and independent work ethic are essential.
• Advanced knowledge of power point and other presentation applications.
• Familiarity with offtake structures, power purchasers, and other key power marketing concepts related to utility-scale renewable power plants.
• Exceptional analytical skills and understanding of relevant project finance modelling concepts.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to express ideas effectively and fluently.

The expected starting pay range for this role is $86,000-$117,000 USD plus an annual bonus. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
