Description/Job Summary

NASC is seeking to fill an Aviation Drafter position with a talented individual holding an Associate's Degree, Bachelor degree, or applicable technical certification and/or relevant experience. This position will specifically support the NASC UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) Sector in Ivyland, PA at the NASC UAS Special Projects Facility.

Responsibilities/Duties

The primary responsibility for this position is to create accurate, detailed technical plans for electrical and mechanical systems using computer-aided design programs to convert specifications and design information from engineers into schematics and blueprints. The drafter who fills this position must have strong communications skills, as well as consistent attention to detail.

Other responsibilities and job requirements include but are not limited to the following:

• Check that final technical drafts include all relevant information in an easy-to-read format, and verify that calculations, measurements and units are accurate based on initial design information from engineers
• Collect, study and combine rough sketches and initial design ideas from engineers into coherent technical drafts for further study and review by project managers
• Participate in design process by supporting engineers and designers, contributing ideas and information, and creating rough sketches and diagrams on the fly
• Assist engineers and project managers as needed in preparing technical documents and presentation slides for meetings
• Work with mechanical and electrical engineers and Configuration Management administrator to create and release engineering change orders
• Highly motivated and possess effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Support integration of advanced technologies and payloads for NASC Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
• Participate in group drawing and design reviews
• Independently review technical drafts as needed according to verbal or written instructions from project managers, engineering team and customers
• Some travel may be required
• Prepare and present project / technical information to peers, internal management and customers
• Under engineering guidance, create assembly, subassembly, and layout drawings as required for manufacture of aircraft, ground stations, ground support equipment components and other products

Required Qualifications

• Proficiency in MS Office, AudoCAD, and Solidworks
• 3-10 years' experience
• Well organized and able to manage tasking in fast-paced environment
• Must have Degree or certificate in drafting, or similar
• Must be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance, or already have clearance. US Citizenship is required.
• Must be familiar with reading and creating electrical and/or mechanical drawings using CAD software

Additional Experience Would Be a Plus

• Familiar with corporate configuration management systems
• Familiar with various electrical and mechanical design and drawing standards
• Understanding of mechanical systems and design principles
• Familiar with drafting in an aviation environment
• Understanding of electrical systems and design principles
• Familiar with working in an R&D environment

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Technical diploma or certification in drafting; Associate Degree in engineering technology preferred
