Job Description

TechCrunch is expanding its efforts to build ties with its community and reach new audiences, and this role will help create the content that helps our daily coverage reach those who need it the most. This contract producer will help kick off our coverage from the East Coast, coordinating working with Editorial and Audience Development teams to manage social channels, pitch news platform partners and create still and video content for various platforms.

From there, they will work with the West Coast team and other Audience Development team members to maintain coverage throughout the day, manage communities and pitch new ideas for content and coverage, staying informed by performance and organizational priority along with follower feedback.

This contract role can be fully remote, though proximity within the East Coast time zone or an ability to work those hours is required.

If you’re interested, send an email and your resume and/or LinkedIn to [email protected] or reach out via LinkedIn!

Key responsibilities

  • Maintaining TechCrunch’s presence across a number of platforms during East Coast hours, and sharing responsibility otherwise. This includes, but is not limited to Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Threads and whatever comes around the bend.

  • Helping bolster that presence based on video and still graphic needs, based on templates and coverage provided by Editorial and Audience Development, increasing the reach of our storytelling, building awareness of TechCrunch’s expertise or a trend that TechCrunch can make a meaningful contribution toward.

  • Programming TechCrunch’s homepage during East Coast hours, and sending pitches to partners like Flipboard and Apple News.

  • Brainstorming and pitching ideas internally to help improve TechCrunch’s presence across platforms, on its own site and wider marketing efforts.

Skills

  • Solid understanding of social media platforms and the audience behaviors they incentivize, with a particular focus on the kinds of assets and coverage that help news publishers succeed.

  • Strong writing capabilities, with particular familiarity with AP Style, crafting effective copy swiftly and adopting a brand’s voice atop their own.

  • Basic familiarity with tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite and CapCut to create content based on established templates, with instruction and guidance from other team members.

  • A familiarity with performance metrics and how to use them to make informed decisions on content creation and prioritization.

  • An ability to tackle and prioritize several platforms and projects, with instruction from other team members.

Additional qualifications

  • At least 2-3 years of experience working on a publication’s social media and marketing efforts from creation to account management, or similar work for a brand or within an agency setting. Experience within a newsroom is a plus.

  • An interest in the intersection between technology and entrepreneurship, and the founders and tools that make the world’s most exciting companies tick.

  • An openness to feedback and iteration. The platforms are always changing, and practices evolve swiftly. And a willingness to give constructive feedback to other team members is just as important as taking action on constructive feedback that’s received from others.

  • A degree of flexibility to accommodate for breaking news situations and late breaking coverage, within reason.
