About BKLYN Incubator


This position is housed within the Office of Strategic Planning at Brooklyn Public Library (BPL). The Office of Strategic Planning is a think and do tank for a large, rapidly changing public institution. BKLYN Incubator is an innovation fund administered through this department that supports progressive library programs at BPL by providing professional development, mentorship, and resources.  The purpose of BKLYN Incubator is to provide resources and training to build programs and services from the ground up and support ideas that are responsive to community needs.


The BKLYN Incubator Project Coordinator is a 18-month, part time role that runs concurrent to an associated grant. This position will assist with the next three rounds of incubator projects that run until December 2024. This position will work closely with the Senior Manager of Innovation, the Project Manager for Strategic Design, and the Community Relations Coordinator to help support the growing community of innovators among the staff at BPL. The Project Coordinator will assist with Incubator related training and professional development; coordinate the application and selection process; and support the implementation and budget management of funded projects and all BKLYN Incubator related programs and events.


  • Applicants must be collaborative, willing to take initiative, and willing to travel to program sites at library branches throughout Brooklyn.
  • Must understand budgets and a willingness to navigate internal policies and procedures to ensure payments are made in a timely manner
  • Applicants must have skills in project management, communication, and leadership.
  • Strong research abilities combined with the ability to compile written reports, create compelling slide decks, and deliver strong presentations.
  • Applicants must have skills and experience in data collection, evaluation methods, and reporting.
  • Strong problem framing and solving skills intended to support the work of innovators and public library staff working to explore new territory.
  • Applicants must have skills in resource and technology management with a high attention to detail.
  • Applicants should have a strong interest or experience in library innovation, public programming, technology education, and/or library innovation.
  • Applicants must prioritize diversity, equity, accessibility and inclusion with all aspects of this role.


This is a 18-month position that runs concurrent with a grant period ending December 2024. The position is for 15 hours per week, $18 - $20 per hour and will require flexibility to attend events and programs.
