Role Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Associate Manager to champion our Athlete & Unified Leadership program in Southern California. This role is essential for driving the growth and success of our Athlete Leaders and volunteer mentors. As the Associate Manager, you will be responsible for fostering a culture of inclusion, empowerment, and excellence.
Responsibilities
Athlete Leadership (50%):
Collaborate on long-term development goals for the expansion of the Athlete & Unified Leadership program.
Serve as the primary point of contact for Athlete Leadership opportunities, facilitating communication and coordination.
Foster Athlete Input Councils across counties and HQ, supporting their development and engagement.
Provide expertise on all aspects of Athlete Leadership, acting as a valuable resource to our team.
Organize and oversee Athlete Leadership events and training, ensuring seamless execution.
Develop impactful presentations and scripts, while maintaining regular communication updates.
Work closely with Athlete Leadership staff to support athletes in leadership roles, both locally and globally.
Coordinate special contributions of athlete leaders during Volunteer Week.
Collaborate with SOSC staff to ensure clear communication and alignment on Athlete Leadership initiatives.
Promote Athlete Leadership roles within the organization, partnering with Global Messengers and other key stakeholders.
Contribute to the creation and management of the Athlete Leadership budget.
Administrative (20%):
Maintain accurate records of Athlete Leadership activities, including Global Messenger engagement, training, and certifications.
Provide support to Athlete Leadership members serving on the Board & Committees.
Ensure effective meeting practices for athletes chairing groups or committees, offering guidance and assistance.
Develop job descriptions for Athlete Leadership Internship positions, manage recruitment and placement processes.
Assist in securing training venues for Global Messenger, Unified Leadership, and related programs.
Coordinate accommodation for athletes, mentors, and trainers during overnight stays.
Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to promote Athlete & Unified Leadership through various channels.
Volunteer Management (20%):
Aid in recruiting volunteers for roles such as speech coaches and trainers.
Support the recruitment of volunteers and committee members for specific Athlete Leadership programs.
Recognize volunteers/interns for their contributions through thoughtful gestures and communications.
Maintain a record of volunteer/intern achievements and milestones.
Individual Goals (10%):
Engage with employee feedback and make contributions within internal communication platforms.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
4-5 years of relevant professional experience, including experience supervising employees or volunteers.
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a related field.
Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities is preferred.
Skills And Abilities
Proficiency in technology and relevant software, including Microsoft Office and database systems.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including public speaking.
Strong Problem-solving Capabilities And Organizational Skills.
Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
Effective teamwork and collaboration with diverse personalities.
Skillful in volunteer recruitment, training, and motivation.
Demonstrated ability to manage projects and events.
Attentive to detail, even in busy and interruptive settings.
Customer service orientation and strong interpersonal skills.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
Valid California driver’s license and the ability to meet necessary insurance requirements.
Able to pass background screening for criminal and driving history.
Capable of lifting up to 24 pounds occasionally.

Primary work location is the SOSC Long Beach office, with occasional remote work opportunities. Remote workspaces should be conducive to focus, equipped with appropriate technology, and have reliable Wi-Fi. Moderate noise level in the office environment, potential for occasional travel.
