Ames National Laboratory is seeking an Assistant Manager of Facilities and Engineering Services (FES). The assistant manager, along with the department manager, oversee all aspects of FES operations throughout the complex of 13 federal/DOE buildings with 340,000 gross square feet. This position will manage, administer, and direct a diverse group of approximately 30 professionals including professional and scientific, merit - technical and clerical, and undergraduate students. FES is somewhat unique in that it is responsible for the safe and proficient operation of the facilities (i.e., buildings and infrastructure) and the design, fabrication, and repair of R&D scientific research equipment. Responsibilities also include contributing technical expertise to Laboratory administration by serving on various Laboratory and University committees.
This individual will need to utilize broad expertise and talents to perform engineering consultation, conceptual designs, preliminary proposals, engineering evaluations and estimates. Utilize creative engineering design expertise to consult on scientific apparatus/equipment designs for application in Laboratory scientific programs. Direct, manage, administer, and/or serve as Principle Investigator on Work-For-Others (WFO) projects with University departments and commercial industrial contacts. Perform vital administrative functions for FES including: developing operating budgets; reviewing weekly charges from all work groups; resolving financial discrepancies; forecasting future financial sales and costs; and developing new contract proposals.
