Division/Unit: Antiquities Trafficking Unit

Position Title: Antiquities Trafficking Analyst


Salary Range: $54,281 - $57,159


Position Summary


The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an opening for an Antiquities Trafficking Analyst. In this position, under the supervision of the Chief of the Unit and a lead prosecutor, the analyst is responsible for providing critical analytical support to the unit and DANY. The analyst will engage in a broad spectrum of activities, to include writing warrants and legal reports; gathering information via subpoenas, search warrants, and interviews; and performing high-level analysis in order to assist in the criminal prosecution of trafficking participants such as looters/thieves, smugglers, financiers, shippers, gallery owners, restorers, on-line sites, conservators, auction houses, museum curators, and other facilitators, whether individuals or corporations, that allow trafficking to exist.


Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To


  • Working with prosecutors to ensure efficient processing and eventual repatriation of confiscated materials.
  • Conducting legal research on New York Criminal Law and international patrimony laws.
  • Working with non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, and members of the diplomatic corps.
  • Gathering and analyzing information from all sources, to include subpoenas, search warrants, and witnesses to recover looted antiquities and prosecute the offenders.
  • Working daily with Homeland Security Investigations Special Agents and with foreign law-enforcement officers.
  • Performing related and administrative duties as needed.
  • Assisting ADAs in all aspects of investigations and trials.
  • Compiling and analyzing case documents for hearings and trials, coordinating case schedules with courts, law-enforcement officials, witnesses, and defense attorneys.


Minimum Qualification Requirements


  • 4 years of cultural heritage or art history experience required.
  • Master's degree required.


Additional Qualifications


  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to update and edit existing databases.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a high-stress environment.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of staff, law-enforcement officers, and members of foreign governments.
  • Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.
  • Impeccable writing and researching abilities.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in archeology, art history, museum studies or in a related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in a foreign language (particularly Italian, German or French) is preferred.


Commitment


  • Two (2) year commitment to hiring bureau.
