Department Overview
The Middle Market Lending Team provides senior, one-stop and second lien loans to U.S. middle market companies. The team structures financing solutions with hold positions of up to $700 million. We also underwrite and syndicate senior credit facilities and a proprietary suite of GOLD (unitranche) facilities up to $2 billion. The Middle Market Lending Team has specialty teams in four verticals: Consumer, Restaurant and Retail, Diversified Industries, Healthcare and Software & Technology services. The team has an outstanding track record of closing deals on time and at the agreed-upon terms, utilizing deep industry knowledge to identify, advise on and implement value creation strategies. Key responsibilities include origination and underwriting of loans. The team works closely with all areas of the Firm to ensure seamless execution.
Position Responsibilities
The individual will work with junior and senior underwriters of the Firm in reviewing new investment opportunities and monitoring existing investments as outlined below.
New Deals (>85% of time on an annual basis):
- Preparing investment and downside case financial models
- Assisting the Underwriting Team in assessing new investment opportunities for the Firm
- Performing independent research on company and industry (internet, analyst reports, public comps)
- Preparing company, industry and financial charts and analysis
- Assisting in the coordination of deal closings
- Assisting in the preparation of investment memoranda for presentation to the Investment Committee including:
Portfolio Management (<15% of time on an annual basis):
- Written credit analysis of historical and projected financial performance
- Reviewing internal monitoring templates to ensure accuracy of investment detail
- Other duties as assigned
- Assisting in the management of accounts by monitoring industry events and through company press releases and monthly / quarterly financials, industry and company research reports
- Assisting in processing amendment / waiver requests, as necessary
- Assisting in the preparation of portfolio reviews for existing investments including:
- Preparing historical and projected covenant models
Candidate Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
- 1 to 3 years of experience in a finance function, preferably in a leveraged credit, investment banking or commercial banking environment
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably with a major in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related financial subject area with an outstanding record of academic achievement
- Strong analytical, financial modeling and research skills
- Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other software

Compensation & Benefits
For New York City Only: It is expected that the base salary range for this position will be $140,000 to $185,000. Actual salaries may vary based on factors such as skills, experiences and qualifications for the role. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial and / or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits such as vacation, sick time and parental leave) dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, the employee will be in an ‘at-will position’ and the Firm reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time including for reasons related to individual performance, Firm or individual department / team performance and market factors.
