Job Description
Department Overview
Reporting to the Senior Director of OHSU Collaborations and Entrepreneurship , this position will seek to maximize the value of existing alliances and research collaborations to both the OHSU faculty and our partners. With oversight from the Senior Director, the Alliance Manager will establish new collaborations and follow projects through to completion, including identifying opportunities with the right corporate partners, proposal creation, relationship management, and final reporting.
The Alliance Manager will independently engage in the alliance development at the project level, working closely with OHSU faculty, other members of the OHSU community, and partners to monitor the progress of the projects and ensure success. The Alliance Manager will have sufficient scientific knowledge and experience, creativity and tact, and business sense and acumen, to understand OHSU’s strengths and resources to a degree such that they can engage our partners, and can guide the faculty and staff through the processes of building, maintaining and growing partnerships.
Function/Duties of Position
  • Engage key department personnel and faculty to maintain positive working relationships and efficient processes;
  • Oversee, manage and track all aspects of projects, including timelines, milestones, legal agreements, compliance and regulatory requirements, finances, and information flow.
  • Facilitate and foster relationships to advance OHSU research and innovation;
  • Identify and engage OHSU units as contributors to projects as needed.
  • Independently lead partnerships, from scouting opportunities to managing relationships;
  • Appropriately anticipate and address issues that arise with partnerships.
  • Act as first point of contact for partners seeking to collaborate with OHSU;
  • Work closely and collaboratively with OHSU Technology Transfer and other programs with business-development type functions embedded within different groups at OHSU.
  • Responsible for managing communications and timelines;
  • Be aware of new innovations and understand technologies and their real-world commercial applications;
  • Report to stakeholders and solicit feedback during the evaluation process of partnering opportunities;
  • Understand the scientific, technical and operational viewpoints of diverse stakeholders, both within OHSU and our external partners;
  • Take notes at meetings and perform appropriate follow up and action items.
  • Lead programs and events that allow industry participation for collaboration and measure outcomes, including helping to setup industry visits and partnering events.
  • Be the primary contact with OHSU groups such as ITG, EdComm, Events and Protocol, etc. to ensure that meetings are organized appropriately and run smoothly.
This position requires the ability to work remotely, and the ability to frequently report to the OHSU Portland campus for scheduled and ad hoc meetings and assignments.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience with hosting visits by industry partners, and in initiating follow-up interactions.
  • Masters level degree in life sciences, social sciences, public policy, business or physical sciences.
  • Research experience in the clinical or basic life sciences.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to form relationships with faculty, researchers, administrators, and industry staff and managers.
  • Must be able to must be able to interact professionally with all levels of industry partners, from front-line staff to high-level executives, and all levels of faculty, from junior level faculty to institutional chairs.
  • Ability to lead and manage complex, multi-institutional projects through to completion.
  • Must have excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills: both written and verbal.
  • 2 years of experience in management or relationship management, ideally in an industry setting; managing or coordinating large-scale projects.
  • Must be proficient with MS Suite and databases.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters or Doctorate level degree in life sciences or related field
