Job Description

Position Summary

Healthcare Support Systems is a fast-growing, national nonprofit working to expand opportunity by reducing unplanned pregnancy across the U.S. We envision a future where patient-centered contraceptive care is an integral part of primary care in all settings, for all people. In this future, patients are screened for their contraceptive needs; are offered patient-centered contraceptive counseling, free from bias and coercion, provided by knowledgeable providers and support staff following evidence-based guidelines; and can receive any contraceptive method of their choosing, during the same visit if they want, without logistical barriers.


This position will work closely with senior leadership, as well as other interdepartmental teams across the Marketing group to promote an understanding of organizational priorities and value proposition. They will lead a team of 2, and will be responsible for developing a strategy for the department based on organizational priorities and growth aspirations over time.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Have a strong understanding of technology solutions as an internal comms tool.
  • Partner closely with Brand Marketing on aligning internal and external messaging during organizational change.
  • Experience equipping staff with resources to serve as effective organizational ambassadors
  • Establish metrics and measurement frameworks to evaluate the effectiveness of internal communications initiatives.
  • Create and execute comprehensive communications plans to support organizational initiatives, announcements and change management efforts.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders and HR to develop communications plans and strategies during periods of organizational change.
  • Oversee departmental budgeting and vendors, annual goal-setting and strategic planning, and team management (mentorship, growth and career pathway development).
  • Elevate internal voices and collaborate across the organization to promote operating principles (value statements) and organizational culture, centering our mission
  • Provide internal communications counsel and support to senior leaders to ensure clear and consistent messaging throughout the organization.
  • Develop strategies for disseminating information across various channels, such as email, internal wiki, and other internal platforms.
  • Produce engaging, informative and compelling content for internal communications, including articles, presentations, videos, social media and other multimedia materials. Ensure messages are concise, consistent and aligned with the organization's brand and values.
  • Develop programs and initiatives to enhance employee engagement in partnership with vertical leaders. Coordinate town halls meetings and other events that promote effective communication and collaboration.
  • Develop an internal communications strategy aligned with the organization's objectives, values, and culture.


Travel Requirements

This role will require up to 20% of business travel. All Healthcare Support Systems can expect a minimum of 8 days of business travel per year to attend two annual organizational retreats and two annual team/department meetings.

Hiring Range

The hiring range for this role is $143,606 to $209,803. Final offers for this position will be based upon several factors including the scope of the role, market compensation analysis, position requirements, candidate's experience level and capabilities, specific candidate geographic location, internal pay equity considerations and will be made within the parameters of Healthcare Support Systems compensation framework and philosophy.


Hiring Process

Candidates who advance in our preliminary review process will have an opportunity to discuss the position, their employment background and lived experience with a member of our talent acquisition team by telephone. Those who advance to subsequent steps in our interview process may participate in up to three rounds of meetings by Zoom or in person and in a thought exercise/case study assignment. Each round could consist of multiple meetings with various Healthcare Support Systems.

Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability

  • Ability to establish credibility and build collegial relationships with all levels of staff, exuding a proactive and collaborative working style.
  • All Healthcare Support Systems must also be able to attend work-related in-person meetings and functions as needed.
  • Ability to influence and counsel senior management.
  • In our hybrid work environments, there is a basic expectation that our Healthcare Support Systems will ensure that their work from home setups will have reliable access to phone and Internet to ensure connectivity to their teams.
  • Experience with Notion, Asana, Google Suite, and an appetite for new technologies
  • High-growth organization experience highly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing comprehensive change management and employee engagement communications campaigns to advance an organization's mission and goals. Strong communicator to external and internal audiences; understands the importance of branding/design; excellent 'pitch' and presentation skills.
  • Bachelors' degree or combination of applicable education and work experience.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to effectively manage through change and transition; agile leadership.
  • Consistent track record of successfully developing and implementing strategic, tactical and operational communications plans.
  • Innovative thinker with a track record of translating strategic thinking into tactical action plans and output.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and organizations, and a commitment to highlighting the stories of marginalized communities and individuals.
  • Healthcare Support Systems COVID-19 Vaccine Policy requires employees to have completed a COVID-19 vaccine primary series unless a medical or religious exemption is approved. As a condition of employment, newly hired employees must provide proof of their COVID-19 vaccination or, if applicable, request a medical or religious exemption.
  • Reproductive health experience preferred but not required
  • Strong leadership experience with the ability to positively manage, motivate and mentor a tenured team; a champion for staff growth and development opportunities.
