Responsibilities
  • Build, lead, nurture, and develop a team of marketing professionals; achieve a balance of delegation to the team.
  • Ensure that CRM communications are effectively executed to drive sales, build brand, and align to broader integrated marketing campaigns
  • Responsible for driving West Marine customer growth (#1 KPI), revenue and brand awareness with ownership of integrated marketing strategy and calendar; must ensure that campaigns are executed seamlessly across marketing touch points (e.g., direct mail, email), website experience, and in-store experience
  • As a boating/sailing/fishing customer, act as an authentic ambassador of the brand.
  • Develop strong and productive partnerships with agencies.
  • Oversee and lead all creative projects and appropriately directs workloads and priorities across both internal and external resources to ensure all communications from the company are relevant, compelling, on strategy and appropriately resourced.
  • Strategically align and partner with cross-functional executives across e-Commerce, Integrated Marketing, Merchandising, and Store Operations to ensure all outputs are consistent and strategically aligned.
  • Drive process improvements across the marketing and creative organization.
  • Sets and manages department budgets and ensures all projects are delivered on time and on budget.
  • Responsible for all marketing efforts including acquisition, retention, creative, brand and integrated planning.
  • Build a social ambassador / influencer program that drives brand awareness, consideration, and revenue.
  • Ownership of marketing budget
  • Ensure the voice of the brand is maximized though all media formats, especially social media.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Marketing experience in an “enthusiast” category.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA a plus.
  • Able to translate brand DNA to the consumer through all channels, (Brick & Mortar, Online & B2B)
  • Low ego, positive attitude, high energy, team player who thrives working with a high-octane team and can effectively build, lead, coach, and mentor.
  • Retail marketing experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • 10+ years of marketing experience for a specialty retailer or consumer business.
  • Demonstrated success operating in an entrepreneurial company.
  • Operates with integrity, humility, and high ethical standards, preference toward a hands on, player coach.
  • Proven success building and implementing programs that break through to drive visits to store & online as well as increase brand awareness.
  • Experience delivering seamlessly integrated customer experiences across all platforms and touch points.
  • Strong financial and analytical acumen.
  • Strong presenter, able to clearly articulate brand positioning.
  • A passionate team builder; empathic, empowering, and direct.
  • Talented leader and manager of internal and external teams, with skill scaling a department.
