The Global VP Product Development, Urology/GYN is responsible for developing a strong innovation strategy and NPD technology pipeline for Olympus Medical’s Urology Business Unit as part of the Therapeutics Solutions Division (TSD) R&D organization. The Global VP Product Development, Urology/GYN works across the global Olympus R&D Groups, Product Innovation Leaders, Urology BU Leadership and Marketing teams to develop a strong and disruptive NPD technology portfolio pipeline to improve the Standard of Care in targeted diseases in the Urology field.


The Global VP Product Development, Urology/GYN will possess deep procedural and technical knowledge of products, technology trends, competitive products as well as working closely with the BU Leadership, Business Development, and Upstream Marketing in the Urology field. This individual will serve as the overall Urology Technology Leader and will create/maintain strong relationships with the Health Care Professional (HCP) leaders in the Urology field as well as foster technology advancements between internal and external R&D teams. The Global VP Product Development, Urology/GYN serves as the point of contact for the Urology Business Unit (BU) Leaders and works closely with the BU Leaders to ensure a strong procedural innovation pipeline of technology programs.


The Global VP Product Development, Urology/GYN develops and oversees early-stage technology programs in Urology and works closely with internal development teams such as Olympus Medical’s Advanced Technology Research (ATR) group and Olympus Medical’s Regional Technology Innovation teams in Europe, Japan and US to create disruptive procedural innovations in target diseases. This person develops external technology partners to explore and expedite commercialization of new technologies in the Urology field.


The Global VP Product Development, Urology/GYN role reports to the Global Product Development Head, Therapeutics Solutions Division (TSD) and is a member of the Global TSD R&D Leadership team. This role has full accountability of the Urology technology development roadmap and serves as the overall technology leader in the Urology business. The Global VP Product Development, Urology/GYN will serve as an integral part of inorganic business development acquisition strategies related to the Urology BU and provide additional R&D management oversight to due diligence activities as well as post-acquisition integration into the TSD Olympus Medical R&D division.


The Global VP Product Development, Urology/GYN will provide informal and formal annual feedback to the global Olympus R&D Development Centers (DCs) functional leadership and cross-functional leadership focused on improving global engineering talent development of the NPD organization and to ensure a strong talent pipeline of High-Potential technical leadership.

Job Duties

  • Partners with the TSD Urology BU Leadership to create a strong NPD technology pipeline that meets and exceeds the overall Urology BU multi-year growth objectives.
  • Provides regular status updates to the TSD ExCom Leadership and to the TSD Global Portfolio Advisory Board (gPAB) on Urology programs, as required.
  • Creates and maintains a Urology procedural training program for engineering teams working on Urology programs as well as facilitates HCP and engineering team technology focus groups.
  • Serves as a voting member of the Regional Portfolio Advisory Board (rPAB) in Europe, US and Japan specific to programs in the Urology portfolio.
  • Completes all other training and job tasks as assigned by management.
  • Provides leadership and oversight of business development acquisitions related to both technical due diligence and integration plans specific to the Urology field.
  • Coordinates all global development programs specific to the Urology BU across internal R&D teams such as TSD, ESD and ATR engineering teams including early-stage concept development, new product development as well as external engineering partners.
  • Provides leadership and oversight of business development acquisitions in the Urology BU.
  • Creates a clear and concise procedural innovation multi-year technology roadmap of NPD programs (both internal and external) that improves the Standard of Care of targeted diseases in the Urology field.
  • Prepares and coordinates status updates for all Urology programs including early-stage technology and product development programs as part of the Global TSD NPD monthly meeting.

Job Qualifications

Required:


  • Minimum of ten (10) years of R&D Leadership experience at Director level or above.
  • Large Program Management Experience working with global teams.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, Masters and/or PhD of Engineering, Physics or related field. MBA a plus.


Preferred:


  • Web based applications such as SharePoint a plus.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluency in one or more of the following languages a bonus: Japanese, German.
  • Computer Proficiency e.g. Office 365, MS Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, SharePoint, Teams, etc.), WebEx, Internet, SAP, JDE, Concur.
