About the Job
The Senior Vice President of Power Markets Origination is a pivotal leadership role for Solarpack in the US. This position involves strategic planning, market analysis, deal structuring, and relationship management to drive the successful origination and execution of power purchase agreements (PPAs) and other revenue contracts for renewable energy projects. Reporting directly to the Solarpack US Country Head, this role also requires reporting to the Global Chief Commercial Officer (GCCO) based at the company's headquarters in Spain, ensuring alignment and consensus on key decisions.
Your Role
- RFP & Proposal Development – Identify and participate in RFP opportunities and originate bilateral PPA targets outside formal RFP processes.
- Drive power marketing “ideas” to definitive deliverables (financial models, term sheets, contracts) and timetables for execution.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive origination strategy aligned with the company's growth objectives.
- Negotiate power contracts with counterparties in collaboration with stakeholders from functions across the organization (Business Development, Finance, Operations).
- Support the Business Development and the M&A teams by assessing the value of assets for acquisition, leveraging financial expertise and market knowledge to inform investment decisions.
- Build and lead a high-performing origination team, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented culture that aligns with the company's global vision.
- Develop and execute creative deal structures across a range of product offerings. These include conventional power purchase agreements for renewable energy, capacity and/or environmental attributes; storage product offerings including super-peak energy products, firming, and shaping structures, and/or clean capacity offerings; and novel combinations of operational and development assets and of multiple technologies.
- Establish relationships with procurement, trading and origination desks at public and private utilities, Munis, coops, C&I off-takers (corporates), and marketers.
- Provide strategic guidance to the origination team, ensuring alignment with market trends, regulatory changes, and technological advancements.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to team members.
Your Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance or related field for Origination and energy markets, Master’s degree preferred.
- Specific experience originating, pricing, structuring, and analyzing physical and financial PPAs across multiple power markets, customers, and deal structure types.
- Knowledge of and experience in over-the-counter forward markets, physical markets, and/or future markets.
- Possess a passion for delivering innovative solutions to the challenge of moving the world to a clean energy future.
- 10 + years of experience in power origination and related management roles.
- Act as a collaborative, collegial and engaged team member.
- Experience working in CAlSO, ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP, NYISO, ISO-NE and other bilateral markets is preferred.
