Position Summary
Reporting to the Instructional Technology Manager at the Columbia University School of Social Work’s Office of Computing and Instructional Technology, and working closely with the Assistant Director, the Technical Support Specialist (TSS), will be responsible for providing technical support to instructors for the online classroom environment as well as occasional online and hyflex events hosted by School. The candidate will provide guidance and support on the use of instructional teaching tools such as polls, slides, videos, breakout rooms, and other assets. The TSS will also provide technical support and guidance before, during, and after each class session for the course they are assigned and any events that may occur online or hyflex.
Responsibilities
For on-line classes and events: provide technical assistance, guidance, and training on online teaching and webinar environments with online tools such as Zoom, polls, slides, videos, breakout rooms, and other online resources. Provide technical support to the instructors, students and event panelists. Process and review video recordings of lectures, event webinars and role play sessions. Additional training and details of support will be provided.
Additional tech responsibilities: assist in creating and updating technical resources for faculty, staff, administrators, students and other TSS to use. Opportunities for additional training and skill development in instructional technology uses.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or Associate's Degree with two years audiovisual and technology- related work experience required.
1-2 years relevant experience; with experience troubleshooting audiovisual and media services technology required.
Must possess good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills with a strong dedication to customer service.
Must demonstrate a consistent commitment to supporting teamwork within the group.
Proven ability to organize and coordinate workload independently to multiple project deadlines and shifting priorities.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks under short and changing deadlines, while ensuring timely and accurate execution.
Must be detail-oriented, calm under pressure, and have the ability to think creatively while working both independently and as part of a team.
Working knowledge of Zoom Meeting and Webinar, Canvas, Poll Everywhere, Google Apps, PowerPoint/Keynote, Panopto.
Working knowledge of current Windows and Mac OS X operating systems.
Works within the guidelines provided in all policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
Industry recognized technical certifications a plus
Knowledge of the use and design of audiovisual hardware and instructional software
Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas
Prior experience working with faculty in a higher education environment
Demonstrated leadership and project work experience preferred
Advanced level of knowledge in troubleshooting a broad range of audiovisual issues
Experience with editing software such as FinalCut Pro, ProTools or Adobe Premiere is a plus.
Columbia School of Social Work alumni preferred.
Other Requirements
The work schedule is approx. August through December 2023.
